District Championship Games.
We saw a ton of Class 1, 2, and 3 district champions named over the weekend and there were a few that stood out. Tolton outlasted Sikeston in double overtime.
Sikeston traveled to Tolton with an undefeated record and left with their first loss. This game was all about Zay Wilson and PJ Farmer. Wilson was the best player on the floor scoring 38 points and making all the plays needed. He’s a dynamic talent that can take Tolton far in the playoffs. Farmer on the other hand scored 28 points and was the main player left for Sikeston in overtime. Dontrez Williams Dontrez Williams 6'5" | SG Sikeston | 2024 State #236 Nation MO and Tristan Wiggins Tristan Wiggins 6'0" | PG Sikeston | 2025 State MO both fouled out with plenty of game left in the two extra periods. The game was a big win for Tolton and a learning experience for Sikeston. The Trailblazers should find confidence from their success and the Bulldogs gained some much needed experience playing on the road. This game was 40 minutes of action packed play.
De Smet defeats Vianney for a 3rd time.
De Smet and Vianney has developed into one of the biggest rivalries statewide and for good reason. There’s dislike between the two teams and this leads to storylines each time. De Smet clearly has their number in the series. It’s tough to beat anybody three times in a season, nonetheless a conference opponent. The Spartans play a similar style of basketball and this could be part of the reason Vianney struggles. Their speed and shooting is obvious. It’ll be interesting to see if these teams play for a 4th time in the state championship. Each has a strong chance to get to Mizzou Arena in March.
