As we approach the postseason, Prep Hoops Missouri takes a look at a group of talented players who are under the radar, but are key players for top-seeded teams in their respective districts.
Alex Mattson (Platte Valley, District 16): An athletic 6’2″ 2024 guard who was an All-State guard who led Platte Valley to a Final Four berth in last year’s state tournament. He is a solidly built player who has very shifty moves with the ball and who can also score at all three levels. He can also go inside and score in the post. He is an excellent passer who can thread the needle with some nifty passes. He’s lead the Eagles to a current No. 2 ranking in the latest Class 1 state polls.
Corbin Axtell Corbin Axtell 6'0" | CG Grundy County | 2024 State MO (Grundy County, District 14): A 6’3″ 2024 wing player who has been a standout performer for the past four years. The solid lefty in strong and he plays at his own pace without being sped up. He is tough on the drive and he can hit the pull-up 3-pointer. He is currently averaging 18 points, nine rebounds and 3.7 assists while shooting 49 percent from the field in leading Grundy County to a 22-2 record.
Andrew Murphy (Wheatland, District 7): A 6’3″ 2025 small forward who has led Wheatland to a 17-7 record. He can excel anywhere on the court with his size and versatility with the ball in his hands. He is an excellent passer who drops dimes in the half court offense or in transition. He can hit open 3-pointers and score on slashing drives. He is very active on defense at the top of his team’s 1-3-1 zone defense with his roaming and ability to hawk the ball.
Kendall Noland (South Holt, District 15): A 6’2″ 2024 lefty small forward who recently surpassed the 1,000-point plateau in his career. He is a physically strong player who can score around the basket and he attacks well on the drive, especially when he gets to his dominant left hand. He can also move without the ball well and hit the mid-range jumper off the catch. He had a high game of 37 points in a recent victory over St. Joseph Christian.
Harry Schnelle (Lockwood, District 6): A 6’5″ 2024 forward who has good size and a versatile skill set. He is very effective in the low post with a nice shooting touch around the basket. He can also step out and hit the 3-pointer off the catch and he can also put the ball on the floor and score on tough takes in the lane. He’s led Lockwood to a 17-8 record heading into the district tournament.
Drew Foster (Eminence, District 4): A 6’2″ 2024 forward who was an All-District player last season and he is enjoying another strong year. He really knows how to handle himself in the low post with his strength and variety of moves to score. He stays mobile in the lane and can also pass well out of the post. He can also step outside and knock down the open 3-pointer.
