Signal Mountain's Eagles pummeled the hosts in the first half. Everything was working and the game ballooned from blowout to a standing-8 count. [player_tooltip player_id='1719195' first='Kennedy' last='Okpara'] played well defending the rim, but the Eagles completed backdoor cut after backdoor cut. They made three-pointers in rhythm. They caused turnovers at a bothersome rate. Silverdale is not some middling team; they entered the game 24-2 with, at a minimum, two future college basketball players in their squad (Okpara, [player_tooltip player_id='1336410' first='Brett' last='Wright']).

Andrew Matukewitcz (Signal Mountain) delivered a masterpiece, scoring 23 points in the win. [player_tooltip player_id='2238624' first='Chris' last='Kennedy'] was big with 18 points and Blake Woffard managed 16 points. Josh Thompson helped with 14 points while Malik Davis (5) and [player_tooltip player_id='1214893' first='Ben' last='Timblin'] (4) contributed too.

East Ridge (44) @ Soddy Daisy (55)

The hosting Soddy Daisy Trojans came out in a 1-3-1 zone and obliterated the orange-clad East Ridge Pioneers, 55-44.

Soddy Daisy's defensive rebounding dominated early. Specifically, Taylor Hughes (SDHS) and Jonathan Love wrangled hard rebounds.

The team cut expertly away from the ball and delivered sharp passes to those cutters allowing them to catch without slowing their darting maneuver.

The first quarter ended with a small 4-0 run by Soddy Daisy. Hughes blocked Cadion Harris' left-handed layup attempt. A teammate sent a two-handed chest pass upcourt to a fleeing [player_tooltip player_id='2342285' first='Aidan' last='Haile']. Despite a heroic defensive challenge, Haile made a fastbreak layup. It was part of Soddy's huge second quarter, during which they pulled away.
