Continue ReadingYesterday I was at the 4th Annual Ottawa-Glandorf Winter Classic and there were 4 good games with 8 really good teams. The results of the day were as follows: In game 1 Delphos St. John’s beat Dayton Dunbar 82-54, Game 2 Lutheran West beat Lima Senior 77-49, Game 3 Shelby beat Findlay 59-53, and in Game 4 Troy Christian be Ottawa-Glandorf 61-50. This article will talk about my favorite players from these games.
I really like what I saw from Yli-Junnila against Lima Senior. My favorite part of his game is he is constantly moving. He is screening for teammates, coming off of screens, and cutting when he sees it is open. It was refreshing to see this because it is a lost art. He is always coming off screens ready to shoot and gets some easy buckets due to this movement. He has a good shot and made multiple threes. He has great size and length that allows him to be effective inside and out for Lutheran West.
Highlights
Lentz is a next-level guard. He has all you want in a guard. He has great length and athleticism. He can guard almost any position on the floor due to his athletic ability. He did a really good job of crashing the boards. He gets to the rim with ease and is one the best slashing guards I’ve seen this year. Lantz has a quick first step. He has great finishing ability because of his many ways to do it. He got to the rim often off of screens and in transition against Findlay late. He got to the free-throw line a lot because they couldn’t check him.
Brewer came out the gates hot for Dunbar. He helped jump them out to an early lead in the first score by scoring 8 points. He was scoring it from all levels but did the majority of his damage from beyond the arc. He shoots the ball with a high arch. He has a long wingspan so he can get his shot off with not much space. He consistently jabbed the defender back off of him and then shot it. In the second half when the defense was focusing on his shooting, he got to the rim easy. He has a quick first step and is a good athlete.

Runik played huge in Troy’s massive win against Ottawa-Glandorf last night. He was a monster on the board and deleted everything that came close to the rim when guards were driving. He made everything at the rim tough to score. He is a tall kid that has great size to him. He is a strong kid who could not be matched in the game. He finished well on the rim. Runic had a winning impact on the game.
