The visiting Lions jumped out to an early 20-16 lead at the end of the 1Q behind some high level play at both ends of the floor from senior F Matar Wade Matar Wade 6'8" | C Archbishop Carroll | 2024 State MD . Sean Murphy and Landry Barbour Landry Barbour 6'4" | SG Archbishop Carroll | 2024 State MD chipping in with 7 points a piece to give Carroll a 33-30 lead heading into halftime. Freshman Carroll PG Daylen Bolding did a great job of getting the Lions out in transition and executing on the break to take a 49-40 lead in the 4Q. Hassan Dorman Hassan Dorman 6'2" | SG Archbishop Carroll | 2024 State MD came to life in the 4Q, scoring 9 of his 21p on the night in the final period to solidify a 76-57 win for Carroll to move them to 15-9, 4-6 in WCAC play. The Lions will play Friendship Collegiate this afternoon looking to bounce back from a road loss to O’Connell. The Stags, dealing with 2 injured starters and in the midst of a 4-game losing streak, fell to 15-7, 5-3 in WCAC play. The Stags will host McNamara next Tuesday looking to bounce back from a 1-point loss to Good Counsel on the road.
Dorman got it going in the 2H, scoring 15 of his 21 points in the final two periods to secure the big road win for the Lions. His handle has improved and he is harnessing a quick burst well to get to his spots in the paint, finishing through contact at the rim twice. His elbow pull-up has become incredibly efficient and he has added more pound dribble and snatch-back moves to his bag to allow him to get into his jumper much more quickly. He serves as a 1-man fastbreak, with a nice set of finesse finishes around the rim to score around defenders. Dorman finished with 21p 4r 1a on the night with a sweltering 7/13 peformance from the field and 4/4 shooting at the charity stripe.
Daylen Bolding
Daylen Bolding
Bolding is quickly making a name for himself after transferring into Carroll to fill a role as a defender and distributor, setting the tone effectively for his team at both ends. A 5’10 freshman guard contributing 7p 7a 9r 4s in probably 22 minutes on the floor made for arguably the 2nd-biggest impact performance on the night. Bolding always finds himself in the middle of every 50/50 ball and uses his tenacity/lightning quick hands to guard 1-3 effectively. As he adds in more offensive polish and a consistent outside shot, I fully expect him to regularly be considered as one of the top point guards in his DMV class.
rnOn a night that offensively looked pretty bleak for the home Stags, Wallace provided some balance. The junior floor general finished with an efficient 14p 7r 3s 2a performance while shooting 5/8 from the field and 3/3 from the FT line. Wallace is one of the best point of attack defenders in the area, using the defensive back leverage learned on the football field to fight over the top of ball screens and send his matchup towards the corner or sideline to limit their play-making ability and disrupt the offense. Will be interesting to see if he follows his brother Josh’s path to the gridiron (NCAA Championship DB at Michigan) or plays basketball at the next level.

Daniel Abass Daniel Abass 6'7" | PF DeMatha | 2027 State MD
Abass may not have filled it up as a scorer in this one but was impactful as a rebounder in this one, particularly on the offensive end of the floor where he grabbed 7 of his 8 rebounds on the night to extend possessions for his team. Abass’ lateral movement skills continue to improve as does his wiggle and polish offensively, not hard to project him as a modern PF that can rebound and finish his opportunities around the basket but can also stretch the defense with perimeter shooting and effective hedging/versatility on the defensive end of the floor. The freshman forward finished with 5p 8r 1a in the loss
Derek Daniels
Derek Daniels
Derek “Bo” Daniels provided some needed physicality and aggression on the low block for a Stags team missing senior captain Malcolm Thomas Malcolm Thomas 6’8″ | PF DeMatha | 2024 State #122 Nation MD , finishing with 5p 6r 6b 1s. As his touch around the basket and ball-handling improve, I believe that Daniels can take off as a defensive-minded forward that excels as a high level role player. His athleticism jumps off the screen whenever he takes off to block a shot or throw down an explosive 2-handed dunk, and he plays with an aggressive chip on his shoulder that aids his production on both ends. Although he didn’t produce at a high level offensively in this one going up against a senior shot-blocking forward, he blocked some shots of his own and provided some toughness for DeMatha as a rebounder in traffic.
