Final Season Rankings from the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association:
1 Montezuma-South Gray 2 Olpe 3 Coldwater – South Central 4 Osborne 5 LaCrosse 6 Clyde-Clifton Clyde 7 Quinter 8 Burden-Central 9 Centralia 10 Lawrence-Seabury Academy
Toughest Bracket – Doniphan West:
The toughest bracket looks like the one at Doniphan West, where four quality teams are vying for the one spot at state. Bishop Seabury faces a tough task in Burlingame, a 14-6 team with Dane Winters as a high-quality leader. Centralia is in the top spot in the bracket with their own stud in Reese Tanking. But we really like the diversity and quality of the weapons at Bishop Seabury. The Seahawks have some dangerous playmakers and shooters at the guard spot and a big man in Chase Honarvar Chase Honarvar 6'7" | C Bishop Seabury Academy | 2025 State KS who sets them apart.
Most Unfair Bracket – Pratt Skyline:
Every year there are brackets that bring top teams together while other brackets lack any ranked teams. It’s an unfortunate reality of the KSHSAA system. This year it’s a shame that #1 South Gray and #3 South Central are in the same grouping. Only one will advance to state (assuming they get past their semi-final matchups). There are just so many good players in this substate – it’s sad that some of them will be denied their trip to Colby. South Central’s Jamie Sarmiento Jamie Sarmiento 5'7" | PG South Central | 2025 State KS , Heath Howell and Gavin Uhl, or South Gray’s Joey Dyck Joey Dyck 6'2" | SF South Gray | 2024 State KS and Dominic Martin Dominic Martin 6'0" | CG Lyndon | 2024 State KS . They were all stars at last year’s state tournaments. And some of them won’t be there this year.
Wide Open Bracket – Solomon:
There are exactly ZERO ranked teams in the Solomon bracket. That makes Solomon the favorite to come out, although there are four really good teams remaining. Canton Galva pulled the upset over Rural Vista to advance to the semis. And Little River, with their winning pedigree, should really give Solomon a tough run.
Easiest Bracket – Decatur:
#7 ranked Quinter has the only winning record in the bracket. No trip to state is ever “easy,” so we don’t mean to demean the other teams in the group. But it seems a little unfair that Quinter could go to Colby without beating any team with more than six wins this regular season.
