King and Manvel vs Barbers Hill games went into overtime. Barbers Hill and Manvel took two extra periods to decide. Clutch playmaking ability was displayed now let’s dive into who stood out.
Thomas was brought intensity on both ends of the floor. Kept his poise when the double came his way. Consistency made plays finishing at the rim or passing to the open man down the stretch. Put the team on his back in the 4th quarter. Going to be difficult keeping him out the paint with his strength. Provided inside-outside threat for the Panthers. Loves to isolate from wing taking the angle the defense allows him.
J’Mar Franklin
J’Mar Franklin
Made big time shots in the clutch for the Panthers. Never allowed the defense to dictate his pace. The floor general made sure his team was in the right spot before running the set. Great IQ in help defense reading the passing option. Though scrappy guard that will get by anybody in open space. Late in the game there was times he got to the paint finishing over longer defenders.
Made it difficult for South Houston to get any points at the rim. Steady challenging any shot near the rim. Anchor in the paint on both ends. This game took pride in owning the paint area. Had the mindset to dunk anything near the rim. The beast in the paint is learning to channel all his energy on the defensive side.
Joshua Larry
Joshua Larry
Larry was an outside shooting threat. Made some tough The senior guard can easily bump defenders out the way. At times made some crafty finishes around the rim when needed. His facial expressions never change no matter the situation.
Buckner was locked in mentally the entire game. Guard with quick first step that finds the open man after drawing defenders. Keeps the ball in the middle of the floor, and in half-court setting gets in the middle of the paint. His shot wasn’t falling, but Buckner hit a step-back three late in overtime that help South Houston get the game within reach. Applied ball pressure which gave some King ball handlers trouble advancing past half-court. The 2025 guard is poised to have a big summer.
Ifeanyi Okoro
Ifeanyi Okoro
Okra opened my eyes with his interior presence. Barbers Hill came out in zone, and Okoro took advantage of the middle. Player that can make decisions in the middle of the zone. Soft touch on his close shots as well. What stood out was his motor. Okoro inserted him on the boards, and dived all over the floor. My favorite moment was a teammate complaining about he was open, looked at the Manvel sophomore saying, “I got you.” Calmed him down that quick in a crucial moment.
Fourest Mills
Fourest Mills
From the beginning, Mills was a factor. The under six-foot guard kept getting paint touches. The lefty can turn the corner and pull up on a dime. The lefty guard left the crowd astonish with his in air finishes. Made the assists for Marvel to force overtime. Shifty guard that can be steal for the next level
Williams shot-blocking ability stood out to me. The 6’8 junior have took the role of being an anchor in the paint. Using his wingspan to alter opponents shots. Took advantage of his mismatches by staying near the rim on the offensive end. Plays with high intensity on the court.
Highlights
The Oregon football commit showed true interior force. Being a magnet for drawing fouls. The enforcer use his strength and technique to seal opponents on the block. Stayed calm when doubled simply passing out or going up strong. Caton is strong as an ox attracting sometimes three defenders just to contain him in the paint. Kade is the ultimate paint beast
