Doors opened at 5:00 for a 7:30 game and were locked by 6:30. College coaches from Memphis, SIUE, and SEMO were in attendance afterwards. There were a host of recruitable prospects on the floor. In the end, Sikeston won by double digits, holding off a late NMCC run.
Sikeston stays undefeated.
The Bulldogs are having an amazing season. They have the right core of players and a legendary coach leading the way. At 22-0 their path to an undefeated regular season is clear. They have a big game at Father Tolton on the 22nd which will be their last of the regular season. That game poses a number of challenges. Sikeston guards will need to play their best and tempo of the game will be key. Coach Holifield is looking to play fast, chaotic defense which could be to their advantage. This is one of the most exciting teams in the state.
Dontrez Williams Dontrez Williams 6'5" | SG Sikeston | 2024 State #236 Nation MO and Jadis Jones Jadis Jones 6'5" | SF New Madrid Central | 2024 State #248 Nation MO battle.
Williams and Jones are ranked 1st and 2nd in the state and have not disappointed in their two matchups. Jones has a more physical approach with post-ups, heavy transition, and offensive rebounding. He scored 31 points and had a number of highlight plays. Williams on the other hand connects on threes, shows range defensively, and is a smooth slasher. Both stand at around 6’5. Jones has a developed frame while Williams looks like he has plenty of room for adding muscle. The other interesting element between these two is the Gatorade POY race. Both are in the running along with Zyree Collins Zyree Collins 6'0" | PG St. Mary's | 2025 State #338 Nation MO (St. Mary’s) is the assumption by many. If head-to-head record is taken into account by finalists then Jadis beat Zyree, however, Dontrez has defeated Jadis on two occasions. It should be an interesting final month.
Elite guard play.
Each team had a guard or guards that were excellent and they were the expected names. PJ Farmer exploded for 32 points. Unofficial but it’s thought that he started the game 10-11 from the field. He had 23 points at halftime alone. The junior was showcasing elite balance on the ball and in slashing approach. A dynamic attacking guard. He also added defensive pressure. For NMCC it was BJ Williamson as usual. The senior had a better 1st half than 2nd half and his deep shots were falling. A quick guard who has a nose for scoring the ball. He’s a potential steal at the JUCO level and has the playstyle to excel. Also for Sikeston it was Tristian Wiggins who scored 19 points and took the assignment on Jadis Jones Jadis Jones 6'5" | SF New Madrid Central | 2024 State #248 Nation MO in the half court. He did a tremendous job creating clean on-ball steals early and not allowing paint touches easily. In the 2nd half his scoring was key. He fought for post position, made timely shots, and showed body adjustment at the rim.
