The two programs have a strong history and are some of the best cultures around Mid-Missouri. Tonight we watched start to end and made some updated evaluations based on the performances. It was an excellent game that went down to the final buzzer. Here are 3 takeaways!
Helias is hitting their stride at the right time.
Helias is a program that’s going to win one way or another under Joe Rothweiler. They’re 14-4 after this game and look to be one of the more dangerous teams on their side of the bracket. They play team basketball, share the rock, and make shots at an efficient rate. They also have some underrated athletic talent on the wings. It’s a team with all the pieces needed to win and great chemistry. They’ve beated the cross-town rival twice now and the first matchup was by 20+ points. It took an Alex Schnonhardt game winner this time but a time but a win is a win! When looking at Helias’s overall resume it’s easy to see they are a great squad. Their losses have come to some of the best programs in the state and were close games. Following this 47-46 win they have a host of tough games coming up including De Smet and Battle. The tough stretch will unveil even more about this surging team out of Class 5 District 5.
Logan Hillman Logan Hillman 6'3" | SG Helias | 2026 State MO impresses with his overall game.
Hilmann is sitting around 6’3 or 6’4 at the moment and is one of the best athletes on the floor at all times. He impressed with an open court dunk where he went around the back into a two-handed slam. The sophomore has a smooth and calm approach to the game. He doesn’t force anything. Scoring comes easy to him, however, his impact on the defensive end is not to be understated. Hillman moves his feet well and covers up shots using his positional size. He’s a top 25 talent in the class for a reason. One of the higher upside prospects that the central region of the state currently has.
Jordan Martin Jordan Martin 6'6" | SF Jefferson City | 2025 State MO and Kendric Johnson Kendric Johnson 5'10" | PG Jefferson City | 2025 State MO form a dynamic 2025 duo.
This Jefferson City team is built around their frontcourt and specifically Martin. The 6’6 forward was too much for Helias to handle early on and was key in building a lead. He powered through two dunks around the rim and continued to assert himself from a physicality standpoint. Martin handles the ball well in space and can make plays out of the triple threat. He showcases inside-outside post-up ability and a strong array of counters. Running the show and setting the table for him was 2025 Kendric Johnosn who added double figure scoring as well. He’s a lightning quick player who attacks the defense and can stop on a dime. He made a number of tough shots throughout the game. Martin led all scorers with 17 points.
