Week five is the week fans start serious talk about “sectionals”. Week five starts to turn the corner for high school basketball and begins the sprint through the month of January. Here are some of our favorite top performances from this crazy week!
Ian Strader Ian Strader 6’4″ | PF Buchannon-Upshur | 2024 State WV poured in 26 points to help his team improve to 6-2 on the season with a huge performance and win over North Marion. Strader is a long athletic wing player that’s very dynamic and intense. He is always capable of putting up big points, but doesn’t have to have big scoring impact to effect the game.
Shalik Hampton
Shalik Hampton
Shalik Hampton is a strong athletic forward who continues to put up consistent numbers each week. This week vs Riverside he posted: 24pts 7 Rebs 3ast 1stl 1 block in just a little over two quarters. Hampton is a two sport star and one of the state’s top football recruits in 2025.
Dillon Tingler Dillon Tingler 6’7″ | SF Huntington Prep | 2024 State #299 Nation WV , a recent signee with Eastern Michigan, received all tournament honors at the prestigous Beach Ball Classic in Myrtle Beach SC. Our own Bret Swanson was on hand to see the Huntington Prep squad on the floor. Tingler had outstanding performances with double digits in scoring as well as solid rebounding and assists. The 6’7″ athletic swingman can do it all with or without the ball. Tingler is one of the fastest rising Division I recruits in WV ever.

Ashton Arthur Ashton Arthur 6’0″ | CG Independence | 2026 State WV makes a repeat appearance on the weekly report with a 17 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 1 block performance vs a tough Nicholas County team.

Elijah Bennett
Elijah Bennett had 24 points and a game winning jumper to push his team ahead enough to snag a win vs cross town rival South Charleston.
Nate Rodriguez Nate Rodriguez 6’0″ | PG Parkersburg | 2025 State WV is continuing his progress as one of the more consistent and productive point guards in the Ohio Valley. He posted 16 points, 8 assist, 4 rebounds and 2 steals Thursday vs. a talented Cabell Midland team.
Trey Stump Trey Stump 6’1″ | CG Nicholas County | 2025 State WV poured in a whopping 33 points this week vs. a solid Independence team. Stump has stepped up as the lead dog for Nicholas County and will likely have several more big scoring games.
