Along the way he made nine free throws in the third quarter alone! He charged to the rim with powerful shoulders and endured whacks and bumps. All this he did for his beloved Rams, but the made free throws did little to cure a 31-point half-time deficit.
The meeting of two powerful programs Friday was supposed to a high-scoring war, determining the best public school squad Chattanooga had to offer in 2023-2024.
Halfway through Chattanooga Prep led 41-10. In a gym full of hype, talent, and excitement only one team played to their potential in the deterministic first half. Tyner played more efficiently in the second half, but it mattered little down 30ish.
Ta’Suade Williams Ta’Suade Williams 6'2" | SG Chattanooga Prep | 2025 State TN (Chattanooga Prep) hit a corner three-pointer seconds into the second half. Williams finished with a game-best 16 points. Teammate Derrick Roberson Derrick Roberson 6'6" | SG Chattanooga Prep | 2026 State TN matched those 16 points. In fact, Roberson managed 10 points in the first quarter, the same as Tyner’s entire team put up in the whole first half!
With a large lead, the hosting Sentinels played a number of their youngest and least experienced players a decent amount. Cadence Collins Cadence Collins 5'5" | CG Chattanooga prep middle school | 2028 TN (2028) was the lead guard for stretches alongside Austin Jones (2027). Ronald Koom Jr. (2027) was getting some run.
FINAL: 67-38 Chattanooga Prep.
Big Picture Implications
Tyner Academy falls to 11-3 on the season. Their three-game losing streak ends, but Chattanooga Prep is not a 2a team nor a district opponent. The bragging rights relinquished and local pride might weigh on the Rams. Still this loss will not effect their district aspirations.
