JYP Top 100 MLK Kick-Off: Day 2 Recap
Hampton, VA. — The action continued on Sunday at day 2 of the JYP MLK Kick-Off. As teams battled to make it into the “gold division” of bracket play, there were a lot of individual performances that stood out. Below are five takeaways from our time in the gym on Saturday…
Hello Sebastian Williams
Brand new to the Team Takeover program, Sebastian Williams gave his introduction on Sunday morning for an already very talented Takeover program. Williams is already standing at 6’3″ and is showing signs that he is not done growing yet. He still has a ways to go until he is a finished product but with signs of finishing above the rim already, the potential and upside is a lot to be happy about moving forward.
Landon Driver Shines in 2030
Identifying some of the top 6th graders around this time of the year is always a fun project and Landon Driver helped complete part of that task this past weekend in Hampton. Driver did the most of his damage with the ball in his hands and proved to be able to score well when attacking the rim no matter how much contact he had to play through.
Jaylen Allen Continues To Improve
Due to his size and strength, Jaylen Allen has been known about for quite some time now but with improvement of him being aggressive and aggressiveness around the rim, his productivity on the court has certainly increased. Right now he is almost a lock to finish with double digit rebounds in every game and close to hitting those types of numbers in the scoring category as well.
Team Melo MD23 Potential
Team Melo did not end the day the way they would have liked but we walked away impressed with the makeup of the storied program from Baltimore 8th grade team. Isa Camp, Aaron Early, Bryce Hudgins, Jaylin Avery and Logan Chwastyk are names to know from this Team Melo team and will be the core of this team and ultimately determine how well the team performs throughout the year.
Monday Preview
Monday could have the makeup of being one of the best full days in the gym so far in the young year of 2024. Quarterfinals, semifinals and championship games will be going on throughout the day featuring the field’s top teams. Along with impressive play on the court, we are going to find an impressive amount of prospects to monitor in the coming years. Monday is shaping up to be a strong day in the Boo Plex!
