This game was every bit as good as the hype leading up to it. As many may know Charles Ripley Arena is not the kind of place you just walk in and have it your way. The Parkview Patriots and Head Coach Scotty Thurman do a great job at controlling home floor, but last night the visiting Hornets swarmed in early looking to make a statement.
Maumelle came out hustling early diving for loose balls and soaring high for some blocks. Flemming and Frost were forcing the Patriots into hurried decisions that triggered opportunities out in transition. Hornets’ sophomore Jacob Lanier Jacob Lanier 6'6" | SG Maumelle | 2026 State AR hit two big 3s in the first quarter to get started on the night. On the counter, Clemson basketball commit, Dallas “Slim” Thomas battled back. He clipped a 3 pointer of his own which was followed by a chase down block, then a big-time dunk. It seemed like the Patriots were a bit lethargic on defense allowing themselves to get behind 10-21 at the end of the first.
Parkview settled down on both sides of the ball more as the game progressed but committed numerous fouls. Maumelle seemed to get off track on defense, giving up some wide open looks and quite a few fouls. The Patriots used this to their advantage to inch closer on the scoreboard. Hornets’ Jordan Harris Jordan Harris 6'7" | PF Maumelle | 2026 State AR was aggressive on the glass and drew a bunch of fouls early on, he went 7 for 8 from the foul stripe before halftime. Thomas and his team matched that intensity though, snagging boards back and managing to poke a few balls out of the post for steals. The 6’6 forward notched 10 points from the field and knocked down 3 of 4 free throws to tally 13 points for the Patriots in the first half.
Whatever went on in each locker room at halftime certainly got the fire blazing. A huge 2-hand slam by “Slim” right out of the intermission cut the lead to 4, 31-35. With the fire ignited both squads competed for the lead. Flemming went to work getting inside for some quick points, and getting some 1 on 1 stops against Thomas, showing his two-way prowess. Lanier pitched in a 3 to push the lead. Parkview’s bench stepped up big to create stops and earn baskets, Bell and Porchia combined for 10 points in the 3rd to keep the fire lit. Thomas came back into the game, after a short stint on the bench, with 4 seconds remaining in the 3rd period and sunk a deep contested 3 pointer that narrowed the lead to 44-45.
The fourth and final quarter of the game was much like the 3rd, ping pong style back and forth. Junior big man Malik McGuire Malik McGuire 6'7" | SF Maumelle | 2025 State AR stepped up as Jordan Harris Jordan Harris 6'7" | PF Maumelle | 2026 State AR got into foul trouble. McGuire carried a huge load down the stretch, he secured 9 points in the 4th quarter alone. A big turnover by each team with less than 2 minutes to go left the score at 53-56 with the Hornets still leading. A big corner three by Riley and a pair of free throws from Thomas with close to a minute left got us to a 60-61 score. With 40 seconds to go Flemming misses a tough lay in, but Hornets grab the offensive rebound and Jacob Lanier Jacob Lanier 6'6" | SG Maumelle | 2026 State AR draws a foul. Jacob misses both of the shots, gets his rebound and misses another. Malik McGuire Malik McGuire 6'7" | SF Maumelle | 2025 State AR makes the play of the night with the offensive board and strong finish through contact scoring the and-1 and the free throw to lock in the victory, 60-64.
