Many teams competed in tourneys, both locally and throughout the state, giving prospects the opportunity to display their skills to a whole another audience. Let’s take a closer look at some of the local players who filled up the stat sheets this past month and who look to continue their strong play into the new year.
Gabe Timmons
Gabe Timmons
Timmons has started the season playing some tremendous basketball. The 6′ senior has been doing it all this year and filling the stat sheet night in and night out. He seems to flirt with a triple-double just about every game and has been a huge piece of Gateway Charter’s early season success. He is a quick, shifty guard with great handles who likes to attack the basket, but can also stop on a dime and knock down the jumper in the defenders face. He is explosive off the floor and a huge asset on the boards on both ends of the court. In a close game with Victory Christian, Timmons finished with 19 pts, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists, and duplicated that stat line in a huge win over Leto. He also recorded 13 pts, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists in a big win over Palmetto Ridge. Timmons is a confident player who steps up in big moments, and coaches everywhere should be taking note and showing interest in this prospect.
The 6’8″ PF has been an absolute beast for North Port this season. Lubsey has recorded double-figures in all but 1 game this year, and has already recorded 6 double-doubles on the season. He has 3 games over 30 points and scored a season high in a dominate performance over the Imagine School with 39 points and 19 rebounds. He’s averaging 19.8 ppg and 10 rpg, and just became the fifth-player ever to score 1,000 points in North Port’s history. Lubsey helped lead the Bobcat’s to 5-straight wins to close out 2023, including being named to the Chick-Fil-A Classic All-Tournament team where he registered a total of 64 points in 3 games.
Brennan Ringhofer
Brennan Ringhofer
Ringhofer is the definition of a team player and does it all for his CSN squad. The 6′ CG has a tremendous basketball IQ and seems to never get flustered on the court. He plays the game hard, but in control and with a cool, calm demeanor. He’s an excellent free-throw shooter and knocks down the 3-ball consistently with his smooth, lefty stroke. Ringhofer does play aggressive, where he likes to go strong to the hoop and draw the foul or finish with contact. He has multiple double-digit scoring outings this year, including 16 in a big win over Gateway and a season-high of 24 points in a victory over Oxbridge. Look for this prospect’s stock to continue to rise throughout this year and into his senior season.
Roker continues to excel on the court after a successful senior season on the gridiron, where he is averaging 17.5 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 3.8 apg, and 2.5 spg. He stepped right in and contributed immediately, helping lead the Vikings to a 9-2 record in the month of December. He’s recorded double-figures every time he’s touched the court, including multiple 20+ point games. His best game thus far this season came in a victory over Out-of-Door Academy where he notched a triple-double with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. Roker is guard that can do it all both offensively and defensively and will be a huge part of Verot’s success as they look to continue their winning ways and make some noise in the ladder half of the season.
The 6′ junior is an elite 3-level scorer and recorded his 1,000 career point back on 12/15 in a win over Canterbury. He, like Roker, has recorded double-figures in every game, with multiple 20+ point outings, making this duo one of the best backcourts around. He had a stretch back in early December where he had 5-straight 20 point games, followed by a 17 point, 5 steal performance in a win over rival Fort Myers during the City of Palms Classic. Williams is a special talent offensively, he’s aggressive at getting to the rim, a tremendous free-throw shooter, and has a great jump shot with unlimited range. He’s averaging 20.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 1.9 asp, and 2.8 spg, and hopes stay hot heading into 2024, where this revamped Vikings squad has postseason hopes.
