The only way to start talking about the best performances from this past week has to start with Aaron Vargas Aaron Vargas 6’5″ | SF Franklin | 2024 TX . The Eastlake senior was all over El Paso media after he hit a game winning shot from nearly half court against Montwood High school. The shot itself was approximately 39-feet from the basket, giving Vargas 15-points on the night. Regardless of his point total, the Eastlake big man would have made the list. He’s been great for the Falcons all season long and this late season highlight is more proof of that.

Andress started their week with a pivotal district win against El Paso High and their center Carmyne Mychackavane Carmyne Mychackavane TX had a lot to do with it. The freshman big man scored a career-high 18-points: scoring down low, at the free throw line, and from range. Beyond his scoring, he was instrumental in Andress creating second chance opportunities. Mychackavane has a big frame and knows how to throw his weight around. El Paso high couldn’t match his size and strength down low; thus, resulting in a blowout for Andress and an important district win.

Montwood started the week with a heartbreaking last second loss to Eastlake, but they ended on a great note with a lively home win against Pebble Hills. Senior Ethan Becerra played a huge role in the Rams turning their week around. He scored 14-points, but his timely 3-point shooting and fearless rim penetration led the way. Moreover, he didn’t back down when the game got physical. It was apparent early in the game that both teams did not like each other.

The Bowie Bears are riding a nine-game winning streak and a lot of it has to do with their star sophomore Johan Camacho Johan Camacho 6’3″ | C El Paso Bowie | 2026 TX . In their Friday night game against Irvin High School, he dropped a career high 32 points. Camacho outscored the Rockets by seven points. The Bowie big man is a beast in the interior and is making his mark as one of the best sophomores in the Borderland.

Chapin high school extended their winning streak against El Paso schools to 69 games this past week. In the Friday night game, four starters scored 13 or more points. Junior Jayden Leverett Jayden Leverett 6’10” | C El Paso Chapin | 2025 State TX led the way with 22 points in another dominant outing. On the season, Leverett has six 20-point games and 11 games with 15 or more points. The Huskies don’t rely on Leverett’s scoring but they are nearly unstoppable when he’s activated offensively.
