College coaches and scouts filled the gym as a number of prospects showed out on the big stage. We saw some great battles between Cherokee County and Gwinnett County, also some intriguing non-GHSA matchups. These are a couple of top performers from the afternoon games.
Darlington got off to a slow start on Saturday but they gradually got back in it on the back of D’marion Floyd D’marion Floyd 6’0″ | PG Darlington | 2024 State GA and made it a game in the 4th. Floyd finished with a game-high 19 points and provided some solid defense on the other end. He was attacking the rim all afternoon and earned numerous trips to the free throw line. His strength and athleticism proved useful around the rim and we saw the tough shotmaking ability as well. Local college programs should be keeping tabs on Floyd throughout his senior season.
Shamar Madden
Shamar Madden
Shamar Madden had the whole gym buzzing for the 1:30 game. Madden is only an 8th grader but showed no signs of fear in a big showcase environment. He finished the game with 23 points and single-handedly kept Arlington in the game against a very talented Furtah Prep squad. Madden already has great size for a guard at 6’3 and looked very comfortable handling the rock against pressure. He hit a number of tough pull-ups and three-pointers as well. Shamar Madden is certainly a name to remember as he’ll be a very popular prospect in a few years.
Victor Julio Victor Julio 5’9″ | PG Furtah Prep | 2024 State GA is playing the best basketball of his career and the chemistry with 7’1 Rauan Rodrigues takes his game to the next level. Julio has special instincts and elite passing vision which pair nicely with the quickness that allows him to penetrate. He throws the lob really well and we saw him connect on multiple alley-oops. When given the space, Julio will knock down the three more often than not. Julio finished with a double-double on Saturday, 12 points and 12 assists.
Rauan Rodrigues
Rauan Rodrigues
Rauan Rodrigues had a breakout game at the Sewer Classic, going for 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 blocks. Rodrigues is a legit 7-footer with eye-popping athleticism. On several occasions, we saw Victor Julio Victor Julio 5’9″ | PG Furtah Prep | 2024 State GA throw it up towards the rim for Rodrigues to go get it and throw it down. He’s running the floor harder now and is being rewarded with a ton of two-hand slams. While he may need a redshirt year or some time at a JUCO, the long term upside of Rauan Rodrigues is through the roof.
St. Andrews made the trip up from Savannah and grabbed a statement win over 7A Kennesaw Mountain. It was all Will Thompson Will Thompson 6’2″ | SG St. Andrew’s | 2024 State GA in the 1st half but Zayden Edwards Zayden Edwards 6’0″ | PG St. Andrew’s | 2025 State GA took the torch in the 2nd half and carried St. Andrews over the finish line. Edwards led the game in scoring with 20 points, showcasing some crafty scoring ability and a smooth outside shot. He possesses many of the traits you look for in a next-level point guard and I’d advise LM/D2 schools to get familiar with Zayden Edwards Zayden Edwards 6’0″ | PG St. Andrew’s | 2025 State GA .
