Many teams got to play schools that they would have never matched up against otherwise, which is what makes these a fun experience. Here is my recap of the Trojan Storm Winter Classic that took place at Meridian HS.
First Round:
In the first round of action there was some very good games. Centralia got the win over Overlake, by a score of 52-38. Steilacoom would win a very clome game with Sultan, defeating them 76-69. The host Meridian would take on Nathan Hale, with Nathan Hale taking the win 78-47 thanks to 7 first half three pointers. Squalicum would take on Bellevue Christian, which was a great back and forth game. Marcus Nixon lead the storm with 24 points, helping them secure the win 66-59.
Semi-Finals:
In the semi-final round, we again had some close hard fought games. Nathan Hale was only scheduled for one tournament game, so Meridian would automatically advance to the semi-final round. The Trojans would take on Steilacoom. Meridian would play great defense throughout, creating 18 steals on the game. They would win 49-34 and advance to the championship game. In the other semi-final game, Squalicum would defeat Centralia, 52-38 behind a steady defensive performance throughout.
Championship / 3rd Place Games:
To quickly recap the 3rd place game, Steilacoom would dominate Centralia by winning 74-52. For the championship game of the tournament, the host Meridian took on NWC opponent, Squalicum. The Trojans came out in 3-2 zone and stayed in it throughout the game. This threw off the Storm’s offensive game and they couldn’t get going as a team.
