Three UP
St. Charles (6-2). I am pretty sure we had St. Charles near the very bottom of the AA power rankings entering the season but the five game win streak that includes a 40 point win over another team on this list has them at 6-2! What has really caught the eye is that five of the six wins have been blowouts. Mason Apse led his team with four threes this week beating Humboldt, and Monday, Connor Gransee had 22 points, Chris Hilton put up 20 and Owen Maloney Owen Maloney 6'1" | SG St. Charles | 2024 MN had 19 in the 20 point win over Randolph.
St. Paul Humboldt (4-1). With wins over Brooklyn Center, Math & Science, Eagle Ridge and Cristo Rey, Humboldt got off to a great start! Senior Albert Wellington is scoring 20 points a contest for Humboldt. They have a chance to build on that record with Exploration coming up followed by a trip to the Willmar Holiday event where Humboldt starts with winless Willmar.
Rockford (4-1). Rockford won close games over LQPV and Hiawatha plus they crushed Providence Academy and Brooklyn Center. They lost to Roosevelt but a 4-1 start is much better than what we expected. Six-foot-4 junior forward William Luckett leads the team in scoring and rebounding.
Three DOWN
Glencoe Silver Lake (3-4). I’m not sure what to say here with GSL. They have good wins over Lester Prairie, Belle Plaine and Waseca. Those are all very good teams. But they were also blown out badly by Holy Family and St. Peter which really surprised me. USF bound Eli Ehrke Eli Ehrke 6'3" | SG Glencoe-Silver Lake | 2024 State MN is scoring 24 a game plus Ethan Sonju Ethan Sonju 6'0" | PG Glencoe-Silver-Lake | 2026 State MN and Josh Fiecke Josh Fiecke 6'1" | SG Glencoe-Silver Lake | 2024 State MN are good players that will score 12, 13 or 14 a night. I think they have a good chance to go on a hot streak soon but they have been so streaky.
Cristo Rey Jesuit (0-6). This has really surprised me because Patrick Akoussan Patrick Akoussan 6'4" | SG Cristo Rey Jesuit | 2024 State MN and Corey Dotson are guys averaging 21 and 15 a game respectively. Both are seniors and both have shown to be good players. But the team has not been in a game yet averaging losses by nearly 30 points a game.
Perham (1-4). Perham takes on all comers so this record is a little misleading. They lost to Delano, lost to a really good North Dakota team by a point and lost to Hawley by ten. They crushed Aitkin as well. Things do not get any easier though with Big Lake, Detroit Lakes, Barnesville, Esko and Cass Lake-Bena all in the next three weeks.
