Here are 3 observations from the Purple Wave’s win:
Great ball movement
Christian Brothers had great ball movement in its win over the Mustangs. The basketball kept moving from one side of the floor to the other side as the Purple Wave’s offense was never stagnant. Houston (4-3) sat in a matchup zone defense for most of the night. Sophomore point guard BJ Brown, who finished with 6 points, 7 assists, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals, was the anchor of the offense, saw where the basketball needed to go and wouldn’t allow the basketball to stop moving until quality shots were available.
It worked as Christian Brothers had great looks at the rim.
”They started breaking down. They started getting a little tired in the second half,” junior guard Carson Chandler said. “We, kind of, talked about that going into halftime. We were attacking, getting some more shots, getting to the rim, trying not to force a lot of shots. Just getting the open look.”

woke up after a quiet first half, scoring nine of his team-high 17 points in the third quarter to help Christian Brothers build a double-digit lead. The third quarter started with back-to-backs 3s from senior guard Jackson Saatkamp and sophomore forward Keeper Jackson. Chandler capped off a 10-0 run with a 3 from the right wing.
Chandler got fouled on a 3-point attempt, converted on all three foul shots before making another 3, this time from the left wing to give the Purple Wave a comfortable 45-29 lead.
Christian Brothers outscored Houston, 25-11, in the third quarter.
”I didn’t come off great in the first half. I only hit one. I came in, and I was just like ‘I know I gotta do it for my team, and that’s what I did, I think,’” Chandler said. “I just have to thank my teammates for finding me and giving me the shot.”
Senior guard Ashton Hudson finished with 13 points. Jackson added 11.
Rebounding efforts
The Purple Wave made sure to hit the boards. They didn’t allow the Mustangs’ size – junior wing Keron Jackson Jr. (6-foot-5) and freshman wing Jordan Myles (6-5) – to dominate the boards. Their length didn’t seem to matter in this contest. Each player that stepped onto the floor for Christian Brothers was in the paint battling for rebounds.
Saatkamp led the team with 8 rebounds, while Chandler pulled down 6.
