Welcome to Class B: Belfield Bantams

In past seasons, Belfield co-opted with South Heart to make up Heart River. With the adoption of 3-Classes in ND, the co-op dissolved and Belfield now has their own team/program!   PHD wants to welcome the Belfield Bantams to high school basketball and the 3-Class System in North Dakota! It will be a fun and invigorating season for the school and community in Belfield. They have a young team and a first year coach but this group is ready to work and they are excited for the season! "Starting a program from ground zero has been an absolute challenge and delight all summed up in purple, gold, and white! As an alumni who graduated in 1989, it is an honor and dream to be coaching the first boy's basketball team under once again the Bantam Title."   PHD: How did the offseason go for your team?   "This summer was an off-season of getting acquainted and building rapport with players, coaches, parents, and community! We were busy raising money for uniforms, warm-ups, and all the other expenses that arise from building from ground zero!"   PHD: What can you tell us about your players?   "This season we have four juniors that we will be expecting leadership and mentorship from!"   "[player_tooltip player_id='2277502' first='Mason' last='Kessel'], our only player with true varsity experience will be returning this year and the responsibility of "CEO on the Court" will fall onto his shoulders!"   "Luke Obrigewitzch, an athlete who loves baseball will be bringing his athleticism to the basketball court! Luke's size and intelligence will be an asset!"   "Kaden Zacher, is another athlete that I hope will buy into becoming our defensive specialist! "Pete" has the skills to anticipate and finish strong at the rim!"   "Kooper Dye brings some size to our team, but also has the ability to run the floor, and his hops, I hope will assist him in becoming our best rebounder!"   "After being hired this past spring, our roster was full of these four juniors and some freshmen."   "As the off-season progressed, the good Lord sent us a couple of blessings in the form of sophomore form; Shane Stroh, and George Lockett!"   "Neither of the boys have a lot of varsity experience "YET!" We plan on remedying that this year!"   "Shane Stroh has athleticism in the form of foot speed, jumping ability, and most unique is his verbal leadership on the court!"   "George Lockett brings a quick first step and the ability to finish strong around the rim!"   "Our freshman squad will have the opportunity to play JV squad simply due to the lack of numbers!"   "Carter Corneil will be getting plenty of varsity time, I anticipate as he has proven to be mature both on and off the court! Basketball IQ and leadership are qualities that set Carter apart for his age!"   "Rawley Kessel, Brayden Buckman, and Payton Schiermeister are our other freshmen who will have the task of sharpening the varsity team as they will be making their JV team stronger each day and each game they play! (IRON SHARPENS IRON!)"   "Last but not least, we have two eighth graders that we are bringing up this year to complement the high school program."   "Eli Bock and Sutton Johnson will be providing quality time on JV and also be asked to take on the role of sharpening their upperclassmen/teammates!"   "The team in general has come together nicely! We have had numerous open gyms, a couple of basketball clinics, and the opportunity to serve our community at the local pavilion!"   "Rome was not built in a day, so brick by brick we too will continue to build and get better every time we are given the opportunity to be in a gym!"   "We plan on continuing to build on the premise of God, Family, and Work!"   PHD: Any final thoughts?   "As a first-year head coach, I know I'll have a steep learning curve just like my young players! We plan on learning together, through the ups and downs, and the wins and losses!"   "As my mentor Coach Greg Pruitt would say, A little better every day. A little better in every way!"
