Heading into their senior year, we have a good understanding of this class and the depth of talent. However, there will always be omissions and debates regarding placement among the rankings.
Here’s a look at part two of the wings rankings, looking at some of the top shooting guards and small forwards in the class.
15) Dominique Bailey Dominique Bailey 6'2" | SG John Marshall | 2024 State VA | 6’2” SG | John Marshall (#38 Overall)
Bailey has been a big part of the John Marshall team that has been one of the best in VA over the past few years, and he understands his role and plays to it as well as anyone in the state does. The Chowan commit is a defensive mastermind who will guard the other teams best player and will get in their head, he’s an excellent charge taker, he’s improved as a shooter and he is willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win.
14) Alejandro Ford Alejandro Ford 6'5" | SF Woodberry Forest | 2024 State VA | 6’5” SF | Woodberry Forest (#34 Overall)
Ford has quietly been one of the top players in the Prep League the past few years, and he recently committed to Air Force as one of two players they landed from VA. He’s a big wing with an all-around skillset on the offensive end as he can score from all over, he’s unselfish and makes plays for others and he is a good rebounder and solid defender too.
13) Dakota Sellers Dakota Sellers 6'4" | SG Carmel | 2024 State VA | 6’4” SG | Carmel (#31 Overall)
Sellers shot up the rankings list following his big summer and fall, and he’s a player that coaches should really take a look at with his long term potential based off of how he’s improved so far. The 6’4” wing is a big time athlete who plays above the rim in transition and soars for tough rebounds, he can make shots from deep when he’s open and he can handle the ball in transition and get downhill to finish.
12) Reece Hagy Reece Hagy 6'8" | SF Miller | 2024 State VA | 6’7” SF | Miller School (#30 Overall)
Hagy somehow was left off of our rankings before this one, but after a big summer and fall with Virginia Premier and Miller School the 6’7” wing solidified himself as a D1 prospect and committed to Air Force. He has good positional size and should fill out nicely when he gets to college, he’s a lefty who can knock it down from deep and get to spots off the bounce and he plays with a great motor and has great instincts on both ends of the floor.
11) Jordan Watlington Jordan Watlington 6'5" | SF Menchville | 2024 State VA | 6’4” SF | Menchville (#29 Overall)
Watlington is one of the most underrated players in the 757, as he impacts winning in so many different ways with his high motor, athleticism and overall skillset. The 6’4” wing is excellent on the ball as he can get downhill and sees the floor well with his size, he is an athletic finisher when he gets to the rim, he can drill it from deep when he’s open and he makes all the hustle plays to help his team win too.
10) Kolier Pruett Kolier Pruett 6'4" | SG Narrows | 2024 State VA | 6’4” SG | Narrows (#28 Overall)
Pruett may be from a small market in SWVA, but don’t get it twisted he’s shown he can play with anyone and has been one of the top players in Class 1 over the past two years. The 6’4” two guard is a complete player who is an athletic finisher when he gets out in transition and when he gets downhill, he handles well and finds shooters, he knocks down shots from deep and in the midrange and he is a good defender too.
9) Mekai Johnson Mekai Johnson 6'4" | SG Bishop Ireton | 2024 State VA | 6’5” SG | Bishop Ireton (#25 Overall)
Johnson took the biggest jump in the rankings, as he had a huge summer with AKT and in the DMV Live sessions where coaches took notice before eventually committing to St. Joe’s. The 6’5” wing improved rapidly over the past few years and has a lot of intriguing tools with his size and athleticism as a finisher, his ability to handle the ball in transition and push the tempo and he has become a deadly shooter from deep who can get to spots off the bounce and use his size to make tough shots.
8) Markus Robinson Markus Robinson 6'2" | SG Veritas | 2024 State VA | 6’3” SG | Blue Ridge (#24 Overall)
Robinson is one of the top shooters you’ll find in the state, as he has the ability to make a variety of tough shots from multiple levels whether it’s off the catch or off the bounce. The 6’3” off guard has tremendous footwork to get set on the move and get into his shot quickly, he covers good ground on his dribbles and gets to the pull-up well and he doesn’t force things and finds ways to get open shots effortlessly.
7) Kameron Tinsley Kameron Tinsley 6'5" | SF Cave Spring | 2024 State VA | 6’6” SF | Cave Spring (#22 Overall)
Tinsley has emerged as one of the top players in the Roanoke area over the past few years, and he has a lot of tools that translate to the next level as he continues to develop and grow. At 6’6” he has great size for his position and is a fluid athlete who gets up and down and defends well, he gets to his spots effortlessly and shoots the pull-up well, he drills it well from deep off the catch and he uses his length to get deflections and challenge shots too.
6) My’Kel Jenkins My’Kel Jenkins 6'5" | SF Woodside | 2024 State VA | 6’5” SF | Woodside (#16 Overall)
Jenkins is perhaps the most under recruited player in the 757, maybe the state, as he has so much raw talent and upside moving forward. He has prototypical size on the wing and is a good athlete who plays above the rim with authority when he gets downhill, and he has improved in his ability to handle and create both in transition and in the half court. He’s absolutely money in the midrange on the pull-up going either way, he can knock it down from deep when he’s left open and he’s a difference maker at his position on the defensive end and as a rebounder.
