Making our way through the classes, looking at candidates for Most Outstanding Player honors. Here are the leading candidates from 3A:

The Frontrunners:

[player_tooltip player_id='1270292' first='Bryce' last='Beisner'], 6-foot-5 forward, 2024, Beloit:

As one of the most experienced big men in the class, Beisner is ready to put it all together and dominate as a senior. He's a double-double machine who can bury a defender in the paint. He's a long center who can run the floor and make plays.

[player_tooltip player_id='1461344' first='Willie' last='Dorsey'], 6-foot-2 guard 2024, Wellsville:

A multi-sport athlete with tons of experience who is a natural scorer. Sounds like a candidate for Most Outstanding Player. Dorsey has played a ton of varsity basketball. He participated in the state tournament his freshman year, and the Eagles are coming off an 18-6 season that included another tournament visit. Dorsey knows how to impact a game and is joined by an experienced set of teammates who should make noise again this year.

[player_tooltip player_id='2209780' first='Sebastian' last='Hines-Turner'], 6-foot-5 center, Wichita Collegiate:

Wichita Collegiate looks to be the big story in 3A, so we had to pick someone to represent the Spartans. We'll go with Hines-Turner, the most highly decorated of the state tournament team a year ago, and the most unique as a big, explosive athlete. As a freshman, he earned some all-state recognition as the high flying, disruptive force. He's just getting started. With a year of experience and maturity, he can be even more dynamic this year.

The Contenders:

[player_tooltip player_id='1461340' first='Will' last='Cravens'], 6-foot-3 guard, 2024, Ellsworth:

Cravens has gone somewhat unappreciated because the Bearcats haven't won at a high level. But this guy has an easy athleticism about him that pops. He does it all and can go for big point outings. If he can lead Ellsworth to a higher level of competition, he could be recognized as one of the best in the state.

[player_tooltip player_id='2169817' first='Guy' last='Tubbs'], 6-foot-3 forward, 2025, Colby:

Colby will have to reboot after graduating some really good players. To stay in the state-tournament hunt, they will need some returners to really step up, starting with Tubbs. He has been an ultra-productive player and is capable of taking on more responsibility. He's a rock-solid beast with athleticism and power to spare.

[player_tooltip player_id='1580488' first='Jackson' last='Voth'], 5-foot-10 guard, 2024, Cheney:

Like several of the guys on this list, Voth is a multi-sport star. He's got the toughness and athleticism to stand out on the football field, but he's also a highly coordinated and skilled athlete with surprising explosiveness. Cheney is always good. So look for Voth and the Cardinals to make an impression this year.

The Surprise Candidates:

[player_tooltip player_id='2169821' first='Tyler' last='Holmes'], 6-foot-2 forward, 2025, Bishop Ward:

An all-around playmaker who will step into a much bigger role, Holmes will be a guy to watch. He's skilled and athletic and has the heart of a competitor. Ward was a supporting piece to a good Ward team a year ago, but due to graduations he will have more on his plate this year. He could play just about every position and contribute in every category. Ward will have a tough task to live up to last season. But Holmes is ready to lead the way.

[player_tooltip player_id='1953946' first='Manny' last='Gonzalez'], 5-foot-10 guard, 2024, Goodland:

Goodland will be really good – and deep – next year. Who do you pick for Most Outstanding Player candidate from a talented and diverse group? Well, why not the battle-tested, talented point guard. Gonzalez can handle the ball and shoot at a top level, but he might excel most on the defensive end. If Goodland competes at the highest level this year, Gonzalez might be the straw that stirs the drink.
