Q&A with coach Heumiller from Garretson
PHD: What can you tell us about last season?
“Last year was a tough year! We only had one returning player with significant varsity time, and the inexperience showed at times. However, we have had a GREAT offseason including team camps where we showed success, small group workouts with great turnouts, and full gyms for every open gym. The players are excited to improve and start building toward a successful season.“
PHD: Can you share some stats with us from last season?
2FG% = 32.1 %
3FG% = 22.5 %
PPG = 37.2
OPPG = 62.1
A/TO = .46
PHD: Who are a few players to keep an eye on this year?
Ian Buettner Ian Buettner 6'1" | SG Garretson | 2025 State SD (2025) 6’1″ – “Excellent shooter who has put a lot of work in the gym when it comes to handling and playmaking. He has set himself up for an excellent season. He is also a beast on the boards. Being 2nd on the team in rebounds as a guard.“
Ramsey Schweitzer (2024) 6’2″ – “Good defender and slasher. He brings intensity and swagger to the team when it is needed. Ramsey is also able to shoot 3’s at a high clip, along with being an excellent rebounder.“
Blaine Trower (2024) 6’0″ – “Guard who is very athletic and crafty in the paint. Looking for Blaine to be a little more aggressive as a scorer this year because he is very difficult to stop when he gets a head of steam. Blaine has also put a ton of work into shooting over the offseason, making him a dual threat coming into the year.“
Tyler Edmundson (2024) 6’0″ – “This will be Tyler’s 1st year with significant varsity time, but he has demonstrated he is a valuable asset, doing the dirty work that helps win games. He is able to guard the post and is a great rebounder.“
PHD: Who are some up-n-comers we should look out for?
“We have a lot of up-and-coming players who can contribute at the varsity level. Collin Olson and Carter Siemonsma are two freshmen who are going to be exciting to look out for. Excellent scorers and very smart basketball players for their age. Cole Jessen and Josh Gilbert are looking to contribute as well, putting in a lot of work this summer and showing they can handle this level.“
PHD: What are some thoughts on the coming season?
“The team is looking to play fast and loose on offense this year, with the strength of the team being athletic guards. The goal is to be in attack mode from tip to buzzer. This is my first year as head coach, so I am looking to build a foundation of fundamentals and winning team basketball.“
Schedule
