The senior guard has done that and done that consistently so far his high school career but he’s hoping to show he can do more. Alexander spent this spring and summer working on diversifying his game and college programs have noticed as he hopes to lead Gresham back to state tournament contention.
Things all got going for Alexander right after last season ended. “Playing with Oregon Prospects and MTH (More Than Hoop) mostly helped me with the skill work and just learning how to create my own shot,” Alexander said. “Because now we don’t have Esyah (Pippa-White) for this upcoming season, I have to find a way to create my own shot and get my buckets on my own.”
There’s no question that Alexander can shoot the basketball. The lefty has one of the sweetest strokes in the state and has deep range – last season he knocked down 95 threes, hitting them at over 45 percent – one of the top marks in the state. By showing he could also do more than just catch and shoot this summer, Alexander grabbed the attention of college programs and he notes that Linfield, George Fox, and Pacific have all indicated they want him on campus next year.
“They like me and want me but I’m mostly just weighing my options, seeing what else I can get and I’ll make my decision soon,” Alexander said. “I’m looking for a family, like a group that can hoop but also a family off the court. That’s mostly what I’m always looking for.”
The plan is to play out his senior season and then weigh his options. While there’s no question Gresham has a lot of graduation losses to replace – losing four guys that are now on college basketball rosters is no question a tough task – but Alexander feels the Gophers have the talent to keep things going.
“I’m excited for it and I think we’re looking good,” Alexander said. “We’re pretty young, so me, Nate (Gilkey), Kareem (Artharee) – we’re going to show the world that we can go back to the Chiles Center.”
Alexander currently ranks as the #25 player in the recently updated PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2024 rankings.
