Defensive Order

Humboldt really played sloppy defense in the first quarter. The team attempted to rely upon their collective quickness when Christian Brothers utilized a ton of deception and designed plays.

Christian Brothers played straight-up hard man-to-man defense. The principles were simply, and the execution was exemplary. An unavoidable shortcoming for Christian Brothers is their modest height. Keeper Jackson Keeper Jackson 6'7" | SF Christoper Columbus | 2026 TN defended the rim, but he projects as a wing.

They struggled to keep Stephon Shivers Stephon Shivers 6'5" | C Humboldt (football) | 2025 TN from getting his shot up early. A solution arose though. Christian Brothers aggressively denied the post feeds. Most of the passes came in with a bounce and the backside defender whacked it away over and over. Shivers was visibly frustrated by the lack of touches in the third quarter.

Halftime Break

Midway home Christian Brothers led 34-23 thanks to 14 first-half points by Ashton Hudson Ashton Hudson 6'3" | PG Christian Brothers | 2024 State TN and 10 points from Keeper Jackson Keeper Jackson 6'7" | SF Christoper Columbus | 2026 TN . Jackson Saatkamp Jackson Saatkamp 6'4" | SG Christian Brothers | 2024 State TN was important with 5 points and 6 assists in the game’s first 16 minutes.

Hudson was very effective initiating the offense, but frankly four of the five starters ran the offense. It was obviously instructed for hours. The players routinely moved the basketball to the corners and cut sharply away from that pass. Humboldt’s reaction to those cuts was poor. It mitigated the Viking effectiveness.

For Humboldt their best offense came through the hands of Kendrick Taylor Kendrick Taylor 6'3" | PG Humboldt | 2025 State TN , a junior. Fast strides helped Taylor slash to the basket. His touch around the rim was just ok, but he was easily the Viking’s most dynamic player.

Kendrick Taylor Kendrick Taylor 6'3" | PG Humboldt | 2025 State TN is a committed defender. He is listed as a forward, but in truth he defends the guard spot with his 6-foot-3 length. Fredrick Moore Fredrick Moore 6'3" | PF Humboldt | 2024 State TN and Stephon Shivers Stephon Shivers 6'5" | C Humboldt (football) | 2025 TN are incredibly unique for Class A subs. Facing Lake County to open February, within seconds of the pair substituting into the game, Moore was standing at the free throw line off of a deft pass from Shivers. Few teams nationally feature a player just like Shivers, a 6-foot-6, 280ish pound lefty with great court awareness. A little Zach Randolph to his game, but Shivers passes like an Anthony Mason (Knicks-era) point forward sometimes too. Team speed is a strength. Outside shooting will not be a factor when Humboldt takes the floor.

Left-handed Carson Chandler Carson Chandler 6'4" | PG Christian Brothers | 2025 State TN hit his three-pointer from the top of the key to open up the game to 52-32 midway through the third quarter. A once tight game had ballooned to a blowout in favor of the Purple Wave.

Chandler’s three-pointer was one of many made by the Brothers’ upperclassmen. Ashton Hudson Ashton Hudson 6'3" | PG Christian Brothers | 2024 State TN made four three-pointers himself though the first three quarters.
