Grayson made a statement on opening night, beating McEachern by 17 points at the Elite 8 Tip-Off Classic. The chemistry is already there as they returned several starters from last year’s team. Grayson moves up to #1, establishing themselves as the early season favorite. McEachern bounced back on Saturday with a big win over Kell and they slide to #2.
We knew Dutchtown was going to be good but we didn’t know they’d be this good. They took Wheeler to the final buzzer in game one and certainly could have won it if it weren’t for late foul trouble. This past Saturday, they took care of a talented East Coweta squad. We’ll see exactly what the Bears are made of when they face Wheeler on Nov. 24th.
Tucker ascends from #19 to #14 in the new update after an impressive start to the season. They’ve tallied three respectable wins against Savannah, Brookwood, and Hillgrove. The only loss comes to Holy Innocents who’s currently ranked #8 and Tucker took them down to the wire. McDonough is off to a hot start, beating Milton in their scrimmage and then blowing out a very decent Etowah team. The handful of talented juniors are thriving in their new roles and senior Keenan Gray Keenan Gray 6'2" | SG McDonough | 2024 State GA is playing great basketball too. They move up 8 spots to #15.
Archer enters the Top 25 and moves straight to #16. They impressed on Saturday with a 21-point win over Milton who was previously ranked #8 and then beat Impact Christian, a loaded squad from Jacksonville. The Tigers are experienced, well-coached, and excellent on the defensive end.
Chapel Hill makes the leap to #17 after a fantastic showing in game one. They force a lot of turnovers, often converted in the form of fastbreak dunks. 6’10 center Ramon Soyoye Ramon Soyoye 6'10" | C Chapel Hill | 2024 State GA anchors the paint and he’s one of the best rim protectors in the state.
Milton slides from #8 back to #18 after two less than impressive performances against McDonough and Archer. Don’t count the Eagles out quite yet though. Two of their top three guys are incoming transfers so it may be a few games before they’re geling together.
Walton cracks our Top 25 this week and they’ve looked fantastic in their first few games. They took care of Pope in the scrimmage, beat Sequoyah by 59 points, and then beat Miller Grove by 36. Despite the Raiders’ lack of size, they shoot the 3 extremely well, play great defense, and are led by Luke Flynn Luke Flynn 6'2" | PG Walton | 2024 State GA who can takeover a game.
