Edwards had a stellar freshman campaign and took home many honors. He was all-state and all-district to go along with averaging 15.7 PPG. His efficiency from the field as a freshman was one aspect of his game that really stood out. Edwards has natural ability to get to his spots and make shots in the often forgotten mid-range. He made the most of early opportunity and will be better moving forward because of the experience he gained. Principia will be a contender in the state tournament.
Highlights
Nicholson was an all-state selection last year and brings major skill to the floor for Ash Grove. The 6’3 senior can really shoot it from deep and has a fast release. He’s a pure scorer that can get it done from all three levels. Highly competitive and always engaged, he does anything to win. Nicholson will be a stat sheet stuffer this season. He’s one of the top talents in the southern part of the state.
Howard has a great chance to repeat at Class 2 Player of the Year. He won this award last year and for good reason. Nobody else had the same level of overall impact. He averaged 26.3 PPG, 13.4 RPG, and dished out 4.7 APG. The athletic 6’5 swingman is committed to North Dakota State and has developed his overall game over the years. He’s a great downhill slasher who plays with a major motor and defends with high intensity. Howard will have one of the most complete resumes in the history of Class 2.
Francis helped lead his team to a state championship last season. The 6’4 wing is an athletic player who has an under control, attacking style of game. He can finish above or around defenders and does a good job of establishing himself in the paint. He’s capable of going for 30+ points on any given night and will entertain crowds with his jumping ability. Francis is a legitimate college prospect out of Salisbury.
Tounkara is new to the state and looks to be the most dominant post in this class. He stands at around 6’11 and shows great coordination skills. An obvious threat in the rebounding/shot blocking element of the game. He has a strong post game on offense and can finish over defenders with touch. Principia’s staff does an excellent job of developing bigs and Tounkara will only get better as the year goes on. He stands above the rest in terms of players with size and skill.
