In a previous article, we celebrated the two best bigs on Saturday – Devin Kerr Devin Kerr 6'4" | PF Piper | 2024 State KS from Piper and Jaxon Klein Jaxon Klein 6'6" | SF Blue Valley Northwest | 2024 State KS from Blue Valley Northwest. Those two demonstrated athleticism and playmaking ability to go with their mature size and power.
Here are four other big men who put their skills on display at the Kansas Top 250 Expo (in alphabetical order):
Shaun Canady, 6-foot-5 center, 2024, KC Washington:
Canady stood out amongst the smaller, and many younger, players on hand for his massive physique and raw power. This guy knows how to body up around the goal and assert himself. He’s got good fundamental moves in the post and goes about his work with determination. He runs hard to be a player in transition and protects the paint with his long arms and intimidating size. Watch for him to be an important complement to the talented guards and wings at Washington this year.
Kyle Duncan, 6-foot-7 center, 2025, Free State:
Duncan blended into the up-tempo style of the Expo by floating around the perimeter as a shooting threat when he wasn’t diving to the goal. He is confident in his shot and can let it loose over any defender. Duncan has super long arms which he uses to deter drivers and opposing posts from trying shots in the paint. Duncan is slender, but he doesn’t back down from contact in the lane and he runs the floor with purpose.
Chase Honarvar Chase Honarvar 6'7" | C Bishop Seabury Academy | 2025 State KS , 6-foot-7 center, 2025, Bishop Seabury (pictured):
Duncan’s counterpart in Lawrence, Honarvar is a determined, hard-working post man who showed he can really impact the game. He grabbed a ton of rebounds at both ends, using his strong physique to carve out space and his length to reel in missed shots. He demonstrated some nice moves with the ball, using strategic dribbles to get to open shots. Of course he blocked shots too – the thing he’s best known for at his high school.
Caiden Newell Caiden Newell 6'7" | PF Wamego | 2025 KS , 6-foot-6 center, 2025, Wamego:
Newell continues to develop his overall skills. He works hard to be a threat to score in the paint and he uses his length to rebound and block shots. He pops out to the perimeter to be a threat to shoot from deep, a skill that makes him a versatile big. Newell is getting stronger and more skilled every day.
