Our next team feature is a real sleeper in Class 2A in St. John’s Country Day, out of the Jacksonville area. The Spartans are coming off their best season since 2013-2014.
Head Coach: Ian Gibson, 14th Season (3rd at St. John’s Country Day)
Class: 2A
2022-2023 Record: 15-9
Camden Cooper
Camden Cooper
Key Returners: Camden Cooper 6-4 CG (2028). The 8th grader has a ceiling worth of potential as he is showing he is a big-time prospect. Cooper can do it all on the floor whether it’s his pure shooting or his playmaking he has a high IQ. Cooper is also very versatile on the defensive end where he can guard multiple positions forcing the opposition into taking a tough shot. Cooper already holds offers from Jacksonville, North Florida, Stetson, Texas A&M and Western Carolina. Cooper can reach the 1000 point milestone at some point this upcoming season as he is our top ranked prospect in the Class of 2028.
Grayson Moody
Grayson Moody
Key Returners: Grayson Moody 6-1 SG (2025). Moody is a conventional two-way guard who can score at the front of the rim as well as off the catch. On the defensive end, he is very active in the passing lanes where he averaged nearly three steals per game as a sophomore last season. His feel for the perimeter has continued to improve as he gains more confidence in shooting from the outside more this season. Moody is also considered to be an underrated rebounder for his size, averaging nearly five boards per game last season.
Sleeper Prospect: Luke Holcomb 5-9 SG (2027). The 5-9 freshman guard plays with a bigger heart than his size indicates as he is a crafty finisher around the rim. Holcomb also has a smooth jump shot which he can knock down consistently as well. On the defensive end, he moves around exceptionally well and can guard multiple positions out on the perimeter as well as the interior. He is also unafraid to take tough shots where his high IQ displays a great feel on whether to shoot versus pass the basketball.
Highlights
Key Addition: Dylan Reach 6-5 SF (2027). The 6-5 freshman forward plays a great inside game and has a smooth touch around the rim. Reach can play multiple positions on the interior as his ball-handling skills and outside shot look to gain a little more work. He is very strong when he has the basketball in his hands in the paint where he can knock down shots consistently up to 15 feet from the basket. On the defensive end, he has good length and the ability to contest jump shots as well as rebound well for his size.
