As we approach the preseason for high school basketball, we will take a look at some different categories of players and those that excel in those roles in different areas of the state. Today, we take a look at part one of some of the shooters in the NOVA area of the state.

Harris isn't just considered one of the top shooting prospects in VA, but one of the top in the entire country as his mix of touch, size and ability to play in different ways after he gets it going all check the boxes moving forward. The Duke commit has great size at 6'6” and has a super quick release with little to no load that allows him to get his shots off quickly even when he's being guarded closely, he moves well off the ball to get open, he gets hot quickly and can take over games and he's really improved in his midrange and his ability to attack closeouts and get downhill where he's a good finisher.

[player_tooltip player_id='1405408' first='Teyvien' last='Barbour'] | 6'4” WG | Patriot 2024

When it comes to filling it up from deep, you won't find many that are as consistently productive as Barbour who can absolutely kill opponents and take over games with his long range firepower and shooting ability. He makes it look effortless as he has range out past the NBA line and can make shots from deep waters even on the move, he can size defenders up off the bounce and get into his shot quickly and he can wear out defenders and make them pay for lazy defense and closeouts.

[player_tooltip player_id='1232158' first='Doyle' last='Brown'] | 6'2” WG | Fairfax Christian 2024

Brown has been a very good scorer over the past few years, and this summer he put up big numbers in the DMV Live and with Higher Level, showing his ability to make shots in a number of different ways. He's a knock down shooter off the catch who has the ability to set his feet and is confident enough to let it fly in transition, he can get to spots off the bounce where he can knock down the pull-up in the midrange and he can fill it up in bunches when he gets it going.

Andy Ramirez | 6'4” WG | Hayfield 2024

Hayfield has a new look this year with their top four guys from the past two state championships gone, and Ramirez is one of the new names that will emerge as one of their go-to guys and leaders this year. Ramirez has good size on the wing and works well off the ball as he'll relocate on drives and sets his feet well on the move, he has excellent form straight from the pocket that is consistent and he is smart and knows how to get open and get others shots as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='1343126' first='Phoenix' last='Shahateet'] | 6'3” WG | Gainesville 2024

Shahateet is one of the more underrated players in the NOVA area, as the 6'3” guard has a little bit of an unorthodox game but he flat out knows how to put the ball in the basket. He has great instincts off the ball and knows where to move to get open on drive and kicks, he sets his feet and has a release that isn't picture perfect but it consistently goes in and he's excellent at getting to spots at the high post and in the midrange and making tough shots from that area too.
