Today, we take a look at part one of some of the top shooters in the Central and Western parts of the state.
Markus Robinson Markus Robinson 6'2" | SG Veritas | 2024 State VA | 6’3” WG | Blue Ridge 2024
Robinson has had a fantastic high school career in which he’s been playing varsity since the 7th grade in upstate NY before transferring to VA, and he’s one of the best shooters in the state hands down. He plays at his own pace and moves well off the ball to get open and sets his feet quickly to get into his shot, he shoots it efficiently from deep and from the midrange and doesn’t rush his shots and he lets the game come to him and is unselfish as a shooter and scorer compared to many others.
Kameron Tinsley Kameron Tinsley 6'5" | SF Cave Spring | 2024 State VA | 6’6” WF | Cave Spring 2024
Tinsley had a good junior season for Cave Spring helping lead them to a state tournament appearance and he made a splash this summer showing his long term potential as a long wing with good athleticism that can make shots from multiple levels too. He is a smooth lefty with a good looking shot that he can step into and get set on the move to let it fly, he can get to spots off the bounce where he can make tough shots in the midrange and he can get hot quickly and make shots in succession as well.
Ben Wesson Ben Wesson 6'4" | SG Albemarle | 2024 State VA | 6’4” WG | Albemarle 2024
Wesson was a breakout player last season in the Charlottesville area helping Albemarle make a run to the state tournament, and he was one of the most deadly shooters in the state averaging 14.5 points per game and making 85 threes on the year at a 43% clip from deep. The 6’4” wing is a smooth ball handler who can create space and gets into his shot quickly and effortlessly, he has deep range both off the catch and off the bounce and he shows a ton of confidence in his ability to make shots when he starts to get it going.
Jason Clarke Jason Clarke 6'1" | PG Miller School | 2024 State VA | 6’1” PG | Miller School 2024
Clarke will transfer to Miller School from Word of Life Academy where he absolutely dominated, and he’s one of the rare guards that you could label as a three-and-d point guard with his ability to knock it down and guard the ball the length of the floor. Clarke is crafty off the bounce as he changes speeds and has great footwork to create space and get into his shot, he gets hot quickly and has takeover ability from deep and he’s extremely efficient with the same form every time he shoots regardless of where and how he gets his shot off.
Reece Hagy Reece Hagy 6'8" | SF Miller | 2024 State VA | 6’7” WF | Miller School 2024
The Mavericks are going to be a team that lets it fly often this year, and Hagy is one of the many stars shooters they have and with his length and ability to play multiple positions it makes him a mismatch going into his senior season. The long lefty works well with fakes and works hard off the ball to get open, he relocates well and he can shoot it quickly when he’s defended but he also knows how to get extra time off the catch or off the bounce to get into rhythm and get a good look from deep.
Camryn Pacheco Camryn Pacheco 6'4" | CG Spotswood | 2025 State VA | 6’3” CG | Spotswood 2025
Pacheco was a breakout player earning All State honors as a sophomore for Spotswood last year, and I fully expect him to be the top scorer in the Harrisonburg area this season. The 6’3” combo guard can play on or off the ball and he has effortless range with very good form from deep, he can get to spots in the midrange where he can make off balance shots and shows great footwork and he’s going to score a lot of points and make a lot of tough shots this year for the Blazers.
