That state is Alabama whose Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo will emanate from Spain Park HS in the Birmingham area. The 7A Jaguars boys program has posted 20-win seasons the last three seasons. Other similar events will occur in two midwestern states in Nebraska and Wisconsin as well as the northeastern state of Pennsylvania.
We begin our previews of this weekend’s event with a look at the 2024s that will be looking to close their high school careers with an exclamation point.
The 6-foot-3 Bright has established himself as a multi-sport athlete. In addition to basketball, he also participates in the track and field realm in the high jump, long jump and 200 meters. Bright is a combo guard who puts plenty of emphasis on taking care of the ball and is efficient in the midrange game. He understands the art of getting out in transition and can finish strong at the basket. Bright has the ability to dribble with either his right or his left, will find driving lanes to the rim and can be counted to finish with either strong dunks or connect on his attempts from behind the arc.
Ryan Burkett
Ryan Burkett
Burkett is one of several returners to a 6A Gardendale team that finished with a mark of 17-9 in 2022-23. The Rockets were also tough to contain with on their home floor, going 9-2 when defending its territory. Ball distribution is one of the strong points to Burkett’s game. While he find passing lanes for his own team on offense, his defense enables him to clog up said lanes of an opposing team. Burkett understands how to score at all three levels and has the overall ability to take over a game. He played his travel ball this past spring and summer with Crimson Kings.
Marion Gaston
Marion Gaston
This upperclassman will not have far to go to get to this year’s Prep Hoops Alabama Top 250 Expo. Gaston is listed at 5-foot-9 and will be one of the returning players that will take to the court wearing the blue of the 1A Eagles. Gaston is slated to be the lone representative from Jefferson Christian that will take part in this year’s event and is poised to provide a stellar showing for his school. When tip off of the 2023-24 regular season occurs in early November, coach Gerald Lee will be in his eighth season at the helm and Gaston’s return should produce an uptick in positive outcomes for the Eagles.
Here is the story on Story – he is returning to a 2A Lafayette team that managed to get back to its winning ways last season. The Bulldogs finished with a mark of 18-10 in 2022-23 and were a particularly tough out on its home floor. Lafayette was 11-2 on their home floor last season. If Story has the ball from behind the 3-point arc, he is likely to take and make said attempt from deep. He primarily operates in the backcourt as either a one or a two guard. There is a reason why Story was in our top 70 of our Prep Hoops rankings for Alabama seniors.
