Continue ReadingThe Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo was a sell out this past Sunday. Understandably this results in a deep and talented field. Coverage at such a big event can be difficult. Players were broken into 20 teams. I’ll break up the teams into four groups. Providing a decent overview of players who stood out to me throughout the event.
Team 1
Quintin Willis 6-3 2024 Grand Rapids Christian I really liked Willis at last weekend’s Grand Rapids Storm Fall League. Just didn’t quite make the cut on for my write up following that action. Wouldn’t even think of leaving him off after the Top 250 Expo. Scored the first basket I saw and didn’t let up all day. Scored efficiently in both transition and half court situations. Good size and athleticism allows him to easily shoot over defenders. Plays at a school with a deep perimeter rotation. It will be interesting to see how Willis performs in his senior season.
Brady Miller Brady Miller 6'3" | PG Forest Hills Central | 2024 State MI 6-3 2024 Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central I feel like I have seen FHC a lot in the last few years. I do not recall seeing Miller in action. Based on what I watched Saturday. That should change in the upcoming season. Excellent ball handler for size. This skill made him a good penetrator. Like Willis also has the size and leaping ability the shoot over defenders. Creative finisher around the basket as well.
Justin Gloster Justin Gloster 6'4" | SG Clintondale | 2025 State MI 6-4 2025 Clintondale First time seeing, or to be perfectly honest hearing about this prospect. That is what these showcases are for. I came away impressed with this rangy and bouncy prospect. Very slender. However was a constant presence on the offensive glass with a quick second jump. Showed good ball skills as well on a few drives.
Team 2
Carter Kerby Carter Kerby 6'0" | PG Frankfort | 2025 State MI 6-0 2025 Frankfort From a very small school in Northern Michigan. Kerby showed that he has the game to play with anyone. That should not surprise close statewide watchers. As he led his squad to a Final Four appearance last season. Excels in the two man situations. It was no different on Saturday. As he continually found open shooters in pick and roll opportunities.
James O’Connor 5-10 2026 Eaton Rapids The beneficiary of a few of Kerby’s kick out passes. O’Connor more than knew what to do with them. They say three times is charm. This is the third time I have caught this Lansing area guard. All three times he has shot the ball very well. Not very big. However is still very early in his development. Could form a potent inside out future duo with fellow 2026 prospect Owen Bartley Owen Bartley 6'7" | PF Homeschool | 2026 State MI at Eaton Rapids.
Zackary Price-Parks 6-5 2025 Lake Orion Similar player to Gloster in many ways. Starting with the fact that this was the first time I had caught him in action. Furthermore, it seemed every time I glanced up from notes he was making plays at the rim. Has a long, lean, and athletic frame he will need to add weight to.
Team 3
Levi Stambaugh Levi Stambaugh 6'0" | CG Mason | 2025 State MI 6-0 2025 Mason (pictured) I could be mistaken. I believe this Lansing area point guard had a promising start to his career shot circuited by an injury. Whether my memory is correct or not. Stambaugh looks completely healthy now. Excellent day for the pass first point guard. Plays with his head up. Also plays with bounce and has some wiggle to his game.
Wardrell Wicker 5-8 2026 East Lansing Last of the Lansing area point guards who caught my eye in this particular grouping. Wicker was a blur in the open court. Despite not being very big. Attacked the basket without fear. There is an absolute load of young talent in the East Lansing program. I will be curious to see how Wicker fits in during the next few years.
Simon Sondreal Simon Sondreal 5'11" | CG Northville | 2025 State MI 5-11 2025 Northville A little bigger than the other two point guards above him. Sondreal is not as quite as dynamic athletically as those two. However he turned in a solid all around performance on the day. Highlight was a confident left handed drive that he finished with a creative scoop shot. Coming off a good grassroots season with The Process on the Prep Hoops Circuit.
Team 4
Sean Wesolek Sean Wesolek 6'6" | PF Bay City John Glenn | 2025 State MI 6-6 2025 Bay City John Glenn Wesolek is as consistent of a post performer as you will see. Is so fundamentally sound and gets shots easily. Creates space on the block with intelligence and a wide lower body. Showed off improved athleticism with a two handed dunk out in transition. Like Sondreal had an excellent grassroots campaign with The Process on the Prep Hoops Circuit.
Alex Beachnau Alex Beachnau 6'5" | SG Portage Central | 2024 State MI 6-5 2024 Portage Central Wesolek wasn’t the only post putting down dunks on team #4. Beachnau attacked and played above the rim all afternoon. Handled the ball well and appeared comfortable out on the perimeter. I did not see as much of that this summer with United Persuit. Has plenty of length to along with a lanky frame. Could be a late bloomer for a college coach looking for front court versatility.
Jonathan Edwards 6-2 2026 Kalamazoo Central Another United Persuit product who played well on team #4. Edwards plays a mature game and did not look like an underclassmen. There are some excellent opportunities in a Maroon Giant program that is retooling a bit. If Edwards plays like he did Saturday. He could have a role in that process.
Team 5
Rider Bartel 5-11 2026 Harbor Springs One half of an emerging young backcourt along with fellow 2026 Braeden Flynn. I had only seen Bartel with Flynn. On his own he appeared a little more comfortable playing on the ball than in previous viewings. Had a real nice long look ahead bounce pass that hit a teammate in stride. One to keep an eye on in Northern Michigan for the next three years.
Brandon Summer Brandon Summer 6'2" | CG Lenawee Christian | 2024 State MI 6-2 2024 Adrian Lenawee Christian Like Kerby, Sumner plays at a very small school. However he has been well tested in grassroots basketball and is not shy. Is a big guard with broad shoulders and a thick frame. Drives hard to the basket and has the ability to absorb contact.
Ashton Goul Ashton Goul 6'7" | SF Fraser | 2024 State MI 6-7 2024 Fraser One of the bigger players at the showcase. However more importantly, played like it. Asserted his will down low. Did not take the bait these showcases provide by floating out to the perimeter. That doesn’t mean he can’t play on the the perimeter though. Has good ball skills and a nice touch away from the basket. Has has good feet and lateral quickness to play in both spots,
