Ethan Buell
Buell was quite the sizeable presence for Team 5 with his impact on the floor at the Carolinas Freshman Showcase. He showed he could protect the rim and painted area and even handle the ball and bring it up the floor. He’s got a nice feel for when to shoot the ball on the perimeter and when to get in the paint and make things happen around the rim. He’s a name out of Bell County High in Kentucky’s 2027 class to keep an eye on.
Jex Gerringer Jex Gerringer 5’8″ | SG Carolina International Charter | 2027 NC was another prospect who showed off some versatility on the wing his ability to knock down shots on the perimeter and finish in traffic in the painted area at the wing-forward spot. He’s got good instincts for moving without the ball and finding ways to create opportunities for himself. As he tightens up his handle and ability to distribute, look for his name to grow in NC’s 2027 class out of Carolina International Charter School in NC.

Deon Simpkins
Simpkins very easily took home the Top Defender award with his energy and abilities on the defensive end of the floor. He set quite the tone for others to follow with his ability to defend all over the floor and not make nothing easy for opposing players when he was on the floor. Offensively, he showed he could knock down shots in space and finish in traffic. As he shows he can operate at either guard spot, look for his name to grow in SC’s 2027 class as he heads to South Aiken High.
Gonzalez was a solid floor general who led by example and was very coachable throughout the showcase. He operates with confidence with the ball in his hands and exhibited tremendous patience in getting to his spots on the floor to make things happen. He knocked down shots on the perimeter and made quick passes to others in space to run the show when he was on the floor. He’s a name out of Northwest Cabarrus High to keep eyes on out of NC.
Highlights
Showers was quite the vocal leader in the backcourt for Team 5 as well. He worked well with the other guards on his squad on both ends of the floor and was impressive handling ball pressure despite his short stature. He showed he could knock down shots with range and make things happen as a distributor offensively. He’s a name out of Pine Lake Prep to track in NC’s 2027 class going forward.
Mcmillan was a strong forward presence for Team 5 who really fed off their defensive energy to make an impact. He was a name who played with a ton of physicality with his defense and ability to make his presence felt. Offensively, he battled for rebounds and established good position as a creator in the painted area. As he shows off his all-around game, look for his name to grow in SC’s 2027 class out of Crest Wood High.
