Bethea (6’4”; 180 lbs.) chose Jim Larrañaga’s program from his final list of three schools: Miami, Villanova, and Kansas.
In addition to being our No. 2 ranked 2024 prospect in Pennsylvania, Bethea was recently graded as a five-star recruit and is the No. 7 ranked prospect in the country by ESPN.com.
During his junior season at Archbishop Wood this three-level scoring machine averaged 23 points per game while shooting 46% on threes. He drained 85 triples last season. Bethea’s most memorable game from 2022-23 came in the PIAA-6A quarterfinals against North Hills. During that epic performance, Bethea poured in 37 points on 11-for-12 shooting from behind the arc.
After the 2022-23 Bethea was named the Philadelphia Catholic League Player of the Year and was a 1st Team 6A All-State selection. Additionally, he was chosen as the “Area” POY by several different publications.
Last season Bethea (1,000+ career points) directed Archbishop Wood to a 20-9 record to go along with a 3rd place finish in the District 12-6A tourney and a trip to the 6A state semifinals.
In July, Bethea led Team Final EYBL to a 4-2 record at the ultra-competitive Peach Jam tournament. He averaged 18.6 points (37% from three) and 5 rebounds per contest at that event. Bethea posted a tourney high of 31 points (5 triples) against New Heights Lightening (NY). In late May Bethea was named the “Offensive MVP” of the EYBL spring circuit after he averaged 19 ppg. and shot 42.6% from deep.
Finally, Bethea was recently invited to attend USA Basketball’s October 2023 minicamp.
