Our next issue in the series highlights the Southern Carolina 4A conference, checking out some of the biggest schools and best teams in Union County. Check out our picks for the all conference teams below.
Last Season Stats – 15.7 PPG, 2.1 SPG, 43% 3FG
Hamilton should be in line to be conference player of the year this season, as an elite shooter who’s expanded his game more and more this summer. Obviously he is known for his deep range and ability to shoot the basketball, but he has improved as a driver, finisher, and playmaker as well. Also a great floor spacer with his IQ and vision, showing he can move without the ball. Getting more comfortable with the ball in his hands. Should have another big year for Weddington.

Last Season Stats – 11.5 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 61 3PM
Bridges is another lethal shooter, who gets them up in volume. Had some big games this summer in AAU where if he makes his first one, it’s going to be a long game for opposing teams. Can get to his dribble pull-up as well as just knocking down standstill threes. He’s also great at picking his spots where he should shoot the ball, versus passing or driving it to the hole. Consistent performances like he showed this summer should mean he’ll have another big year at Marvin Ridge.

Jack Ellyson
Jack Ellyson
Last Season Stats – 10.7 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 3.0 APG
Really just a competitor and winner, all things considered. Has the body of a guard but plays like a hybrid forward, doing things on the perimeter and in the post that help his team. Good cutter and mover without the ball. He plays very hard, tough, and with a chip on his shoulder that he may not be the most skilled player out there, but he is going to outwork you all game long. Is the ultimate connecting piece for Weddington and should get attention for that this season.
Nathan Tavares
Nathan Tavares
Last Season Stats – 9.2 PPG, 2.9 RPG, 3.0 APG
Tavares is going to be stepping into a big role now with Sun Valley, and this pick is based more on upside vs. previous contribution. He’s shown us he is a good finisher around the basket with nice touch. Getting downhill and to his floater should be a key part of his game this year. Also able to facilitate and find open teammates when defenses collapse. Defensively tough with active hands and anticipation to jump into passing lanes. If he continues to develop his jumper he should be deserving of a few college looks.
Josh Clark
Josh Clark
Last Season Stats – 12.7 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 2.1 APG
Clark is undersized, but sturdy and has a good frame to be a next level guard. He’s quick and able to slither through defenses with finesse as well as power, and capably finishes around the hoop. Also a capable playmaker for his teammates, but primarily looking to score the ball when it’s in his hands. He’s a tough, high IQ guy who can sit down on defense as well at times. He should continue to be a large part of the three headed monster Marvin Ridge has.
