In this piece, we are taking a deep dive into Team 4 who had a record of 2-1 at the Showcase.
Team 4 Player Notes
Austin Kanenwisher Austin Kanenwisher 6'1" | SF Stanley | 2027 State ND |6’1 SF| Stanley
-Shooting mechanics look good
-Cashed in a triple when spotting up in transition
-Nice work spacing the floor in a 3on2 fast break, resulted in a triple
-Makes positive things happen off the bounce
-Showed extra hustle when securing an offensive rebound
-Feeds the post, BIGs love guys that will get them the rock
Bennett Jensen |5’6 G| Harrisburg
-Not afraid to shoot the J off the ball screen
-Will pull the trigger from deep
-Handles the ball well, sharp skills
-Made a nice play in uptempo, slashed into paint, got D on his hip, shoulders parallel to rim, AND1 score
-Broke press late in game, drew the help in transition, delivered a dime to DeJong for the win
Brooks Armstrong Brooks Armstrong 6'0" | SG Bismarck St. Mary's | 2027 State ND |6’0 G| St. Mary’s
-Mobile, fast, physical, good-sized
-Not afraid of contact
-Showed excellent timing with an O-board tip-in
-Had multiple quality finishes at the rim via slashing
-Effective playing downhill
-Scrapped for loose balls
-Had a look on the baseline, did not force shot, kicked it out for an open 3 instead
-Made a nice give-n-go pass to a cutting teammate
Cash Slater |5’8 G| Dakota Valley
-Not the biggest player but contested & changed shots around the hoop
-Moved the ball on O, did not force shots
-Drove into the D, drew the help, kicked to a shooter for a triple
-Slashes looking to create and share the ball with others
-Looked good moving his feet laterally to cut off a slasher
-Showed noteworthy body control when walking the tightrope on the baseline to save the ball
Drew Jordan Drew Jordan 6'1" | CG Minot | 2027 State ND |5’10 G| Minot
-Has a visually-pleasing shot
-Must have one of the best shots in the 2027 class from North Dakota
-Cashed in numerous triples, off the dribble, catch-n-shoot, space & spot
-Inside-out 3ball off Irey pass, so pretty, the pass and the shot
-High shooting release, reaches into the cooking jar every time
-Nice-looking pull-up J, used a slight hesi-move to get space
-Crashed O-glass from the wing, O-rebound
-Precision pass to a cutting Terras for 2
-Admirable lob touch pass to a sealing Irey for a score
-Help-side steal, anticipated and ripped the rock
-Dove on the floor, picked up loose ball, delivered pass from the deck
-Impressive feet, made a spin move & showed a sweet step-through
-Seems to know the game well, good feel for the game, especially on O
Elliot DeJong |6’4 F| West Central
-Athletic, strong, lefty
-I thought he could only use his left hand but he scored multiple buckets going right
-Showed defensive awareness when coming across the lane to erase a shot
-A shot changer & blocker in the paint, intimidating presence
-Nobody could match his physicality
-O-board putback, strong like bull
-Another O-board putback, D was on his left shoulder, finished with right
-Athletic spin move in traffic, lefty score, flashy move
-Soft touch on a short jumper from the block
-Caught short corner, ripped, 1 dribble, exploded by D
-Athletic diagonal slash across the lane, finished with a running righty hook, looked nice
-Sweet pass out of the post to a cutting teammate, impressive eyes & unselfishness
-O-board tip-in, multiple putback scores, favorable timing and reads
-Physical post up, created contact & space, lefty score with a 1-handed J
-Posted up, direct power move to the rim for an easy score
-Showed aggressiveness and long arms on D, reached in & locked up the ball for a jump
-O-board very late, righty putback score to help get the W
-Sprinted, caught in transition, finished the basket to seal the victory
Kuper Irey Kuper Irey 6'1" | C Brandon Valley | 2027 SD |6’1 PF| Brandon Valley
-BIG, thick, strong, long arms
-Old-school & throwback post, coach Nelson should love his game
-Gravitated to the rock on misses, productive rebounder
-Posted up, sealed defender on high side, caught & scored, STRONG man
-Impressive AND1 bucket from the BIG lefty
-Contested and altered shots, gave offenders problems around the hoop
-Dove on the court, all-out dive so he could get his mitts on the ball
-Physical sealer, got deep position, buried the defender
-Unselfish kick out to a teammate from the block
-L cut out of post when teammate attacks, has awareness
-Sealed & won position early, caught high, kept it high, right baby hook basket
-Showed that he can hedge-n-recover in PNR game
-Loved when he cut, caught, power dribble, physical score
Sprintred rim-to-rim, caught, right-handed finish in transition, LOVE BIGs that sprint
Owen Terras Owen Terras 6'2" | SF Horace | 2027 State ND |5’11 G/F| Horace
-Awe-inspiring cutter, sneaky/smart/clever
-Opportunistic scorer
-Excellent backside cut to the basket for 2 points
-Cut off the post on baseline side, caught, bounced, reverse layup for the score
-Looks to have keen spatial awareness
-Always contests shots with a high hand
-Stole the rock with sharp basketball instincts
-Ran the floor hard/hustled
-Secured the rebound, showed good handles leading the break the other way
-Skilled, threw lefty passes on the perimeter
-Had the rock on the wing in transition, 3on2 break, drove middle, attacked D, found shooter on wing for 3
