As we reflect on 2025s and 2026s who stood out this summer, we gave a good look at risers in the 5A and 6A classes. Now let's look at some guards on the rise from small and medium size schools (in alphabetical order):

Fynn Burge, 6-foot guard, Moundridge High School, PGUHOOPS:

Moundridge will have a lot of holes to fill after 2A winning state. But the basketball tradition at the school would lead you to believe there are good players on the way. That appears to be true, and Burge appears to be one of the leaders of the next wave. With so many holes to fill, versatility will be an important quality to have, and Burge showed it with PGU this summer. He can contend in the paint, defending and rebounding against the bigs. He also can handle the ball and shoot it from deep. That kind of versatility should earn him playing time after he suited up for the champs as a freshman.

[player_tooltip player_id='2211318' first='Cole' last='Dillon'], 5-foot-11 guard, 2026, Newton, HOH:

Dillon is on this list not because he hasn't played any varsity yet, but because we foresee a whole lot more in his future very soon. He was one of the best 2026 wings we saw this summer – a true shooting guard who can do a lot of things. He rebounds and defends with good length and athleticism. With the ball in his hands, he can push it up the floor and make plays in transition. And he's a dynamite shooter from deep who will stretch defenses. He was a real good varsity player as a freshman, earning all league in the AVCT Division I. We believe there will be much more to come.

Jack Horsch, 6-foot guard, Andale High School, Kansas Select:

Horsch was one of our favorite 2026s this summer. The guy is one of the most tenacious, energetic and hard-working players we saw anywhere. He is everywhere on defense, disrupting everything. He creates a lot of turnovers and is the first to dive for every loose ball. He flies up the court getting transition buckets by fearlessly attacking the goal. He's athletic and smart and willing to do whatever the team needs. He will be looking for playing time for the Indians, who graduated some fine players.

[player_tooltip player_id='1624987' first='Jordan' last='Jones'], 6-foot guard, 2026, Colby, [program_tooltip program_id='2075854' first='SSA' last='Hoops Elite']:

We were pretty sure Jones could contribute to the varsity a year ago after he played up with SSA. He was a key contributor to Colby's state run. But now we believe he's ready to do a lot more after another good club season. He is solid at the point, which he may have to play due to graduation losses at Colby. He can also play the wing because of his shot fundamentals and ability to drive and get jumpers on the bounce. He is a strong, physically developed player who can defend and rebound too. His summer production tells us he should take a big step as a sophomore.

[player_tooltip player_id='1955301' first='Mason' last='Martin'], 6-1 guard, 2026, Hoisington, Wichita Padres:

Similar to Dillon, Martin has already established himself as a varsity performer. We're just looking forward to even more from this talented guard. He's long and bouncy and plays both on point and off the ball equally well. He can shoot it and get to jumpers off the bounce. He pushes the ball aggressively and isn't intimidated when he attacks the rim. Martin plays big at the guard spot, using his length and hops as an advantage against lesser athletes at guard.

Lachlan McRae, 5-foot-9 guard, 2026, Tonganoxie, LTD Select (pictured):

Prep Hoops scouts enjoyed McRae's ability to make plays and his infectious energy and positivity. He isn't big, but he plays big. He actually was used as a forward by LTD Select, and he guarded and scored in the paint. He's strong and athletic and tenacious. He bounces off defenders and fades away to get jumpers off. While not big, he could give Tonganoxie versatility and toughness next season.

As we reflect on 2025s and 2026s who stood out this summer, we gave a good look at risers in the 5A and 6A classes. Now let's look at some guards on the rise from small and medium size schools (in alphabetical order):
