Portland State held its annual individual Elite Camp on Friday, August 4, and we had the opportunity to drop by the Viking Pavilion to observe. Vikings head coach Jase Coburn and his staff spent some time teaching the game with drills before the participants hit the court for some 5-on-5 action. Of the 90 or so registered attendees, many were from Oregon and after covering our First Team, here's our Second Team All-Camp squad.

Second Team

[player_tooltip player_id='1495285' first='Nate' last='Gilkey'] (2024 Gresham)

Gilkey was arguably the top shot blocker at Portland State Elite Camp. The rising senior from Gresham challenged shots both inside the paint and going out on the perimeter and didn't just swat shots out of bounds but kept them in play. Offensively he continues to come along but has continued to get more confident with his basic post moves to power past defenders and utilize his soft touch for scores inside.

[player_tooltip player_id='1910896' first='Diggy' last='Griffin'] (2025 Rosemary Anderson Prep)

Griffin has added some strength to his wiry frame this off-season and it really showed during the day's games. The rising junior - who will be at the new Rosemary Anderson Prep program this next season - was able to utilize his improved bulk along with his speed and athleticism to get to the basket and finish at the rim. He was sharp with hit outside shooting as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='1368227' first='Owen' last='Nathan'] (2025 Roosevelt)

Good effort from Nathan who's one of those guys who doesn't necessarily do anything spectacular but gets the job done (although he did show off some improved athleticism by throwing down a dunk on one fast break). Especially on the defensive end, the rising junior from Roosevelt makes an impact with his quick hands, anticipation skills, and overall effort to create turnovers. His shot was on target as well during the action we watched.

[player_tooltip player_id='1565738' first='Dax' last='Hanzlik'] (2024 Westside Christian)

Long and lanky, Hanzlik may have been one of the more athletic wings at the camp. He was aggressive on both ends of the floor, attacking the hoop and getting to the rim, and did a great job defensively coming over from the weak side to block shots. The rising senior from Westside Christian was outstanding finishing in transition and capably hit some perimeter jumpers as well.

[player_tooltip player_id='1565735' first='Jackson' last='Leach'] (2024 West Salem)

There were a number of top point guards in attendance at Portland State Elite Camp and Leach more than showed he belonged with any of them. The rising West Salem senior was in control of the basketball whenever he set up the offense, carefully surveying the floor before making the decision to get into the lane and either score or find the open man. His go-to shot, the turnaround fadeaway in the lane, was definitely money.
