Continue ReadingPortland State held its annual individual Elite Camp on Friday, August 4, and we had the opportunity to drop by the Viking Pavilion to observe. Vikings head coach Jase Coburn and his staff spent some time teaching the game with drills before the participants hit the court for some 5-on-5 action. We’ve covered our First and Second Team All-Camp honorees; here’s a look our notes on some of the other rising seniors who were in attendance.
Kamar Benbo Kamar Benbo 6'3" | SG Parkrose | 2024 State OR (2024 Parkrose) – Has played a lot at the point this off-season and looked to lead the offense at camp. Looked more to attack the basket for opportunities for himself and others rather than shoot from the perimeter. Good effort on the defensive end.
Graham Eikenberry (2024 St Andrew’s-RI) – One of the top rebounders at camp, earned plenty of second chance points. Ran the floor well. Looked to show off his improved range on his shot and knocked down at least one three.
Nick Ghetie Nick Ghetie 5'11" | PG Lakeridge | 2024 State OR (2024 Lakeridge) – Solid ball-handler and distributor. Looked to create but didn’t over penetrate and largely played turnover free basketball. Capably hit some shots from the perimeter.
Cole Holum Cole Holum 6'9" | PF Lakeridge | 2024 State OR (2024 Lakeridge) – One of the few bigger players but seemingly looked to look more at operating from the perimeter. Had success, hitting open jumpers and creating off the dribble and finishing at the rim.
Braydon Ace Long Braydon Ace Long 6'0" | CG Willamette | 2024 State OR (2024 Willamette) – Shot the ball well in drills but didn’t get many opportunities from outside during the games. When he did get the ball, looked mainly to find open teammates, especially in transition and dished out a couple of nice assists.
Aidan Rice Aidan Rice 6'2" | PG Beaverton | 2024 State OR (2024 Beaverton) – Showed a good feel for the game and seemingly looked to set up teammates more than look for his own shot. Was able to hit a few jumpers. Definitely seems to have added some physical strength during the off-season.
Ben Chobu (2024 Liberty) – High energy guard on both ends of the floor. Above average athleticism for a smaller guard and wasn’t afraid to drive amongst the trees and try to finish.
Gabriel Welch (2024 Centennial) – Athletic lead guard who excelled the most in transition. Good speed, was able to get down court in a hurry with or without the basketball.
Vitaly Sergeychuk (2024 David Douglas) – Big time leaper who operates above the rim. Was able to get loose in transition and make some spectacular plays around the hoop. Working on decision making and feel for the game but seems to have come along since last season.
Lincoln Satterhwaite (2024 David Douglas) – Solid scoring guard that seems to be growing into his body. Good mechanics on his outside shot and wasn’t hesitant to drive to the hoop.
Damian Acosta Damian Acosta 5'9" | PG Hillsboro | 2024 State OR (2024 Hillsboro) – Hard-working lefty guard that looked to make hustle plays. Made a difference on the defensive end with his motor and was able to scrap for a few buckets on offense.
