Even with a number of the top players at Southside High, there will be some players who have flown under the radar in the building. In this Prep Hoops exclusive, we will look at some under the radar preps who will be playing this weekend.
Jeremiah Lewis Jeremiah Lewis 6'3" | SG Ponchatoula | 2024 State LA (Ponchatoula | 6’1″| 2024) – Lewis was a part of the championship team last year and is a player who can heat up quickly. If he is on, he can score in bunches. At his height however, he will have to show that he can handle running a team just as well as he plays off the ball. Lewis is stronger than people think and he can take harm going to the hoop. He is a very good player.
Chris Shiflett Chris Shiflett 5'10" | PG Evangel | 2025 State LA (Evangel | 5’9″| 2025) – Shiflett is one of the more gifted ballhandlers we have in Louisiana. He is good at seeing situations where he can attack and either get the ball to a teammate or score himself. Shiflett is on of the better players in the northwest corner of the state. His ability to play on and off the ball makes him a valuable player. He really is a complete player even at his height.
Michael Mouton Michael Mouton 6'5" | SG St. Thomas More | 2024 State LA (St. Thomas More | 6’4″| 2024) – Mouton has been a player who can stretch the floor for STM the last couple of years. His ability to shoot from the perimeter gives him an advantage over a lot of people he guards and who guards him. Mouton is also a high volume rebounder and can create a mismatch on the boards. His multi-faceted game will be something to watch on the court in Youngsville.
Aumad Hackett Aumad Hackett 6'0" | PG Bonnabel | 2024 State LA (Bonnabel | 5’10″| 2024) – The Bruin point guard could not play as a transfer last season. However, he gets a chance to create momentum going into the season with a good performance at Southside. Hackett is a guard who can push pace and make plays in the open floor. Getting downhill is his best trait. He can also shoot from the perimeter. His ability to do both should peak interest in his game.
Justin Burns Justin Burns 6'4" | SF Peabody | 2024 State LA (Peabody | 6’5″| 2025) – Burns is one of the most improved players in Louisiana and he has shown it all summer. He has developed into a very good rebounder and a great finisher around the rim. Burns is long and athletic as well which helps him in open floor situations. If his game continues to blossom, he will be a very intriguing wing going forward.
Chad Jones Chad Jones 6'7" | PF St. Thomas More | 2024 State LA (St. Thomas More | 6’7″| 2024) – Jones has been one of the more interesting prospects in the Boot. He is very good at running the floor and being a rim protector since his sophomore season. His perimeter game is improving in consistency and that may set him apart from other recruits. If Jones can handle his own on both ends, he becomes one of the most coveted recruits in the state.
Christian Johnson Christian Johnson 6'8" | PF Woodlawn-Baton Rouge | 2024 State LA (Woodlawn BR | 6’7″| 2024) – Johnson has developed into a very good finisher at the rim and a guy who can finish on the break. He is long and athletic which makes him able to defend multiple positions. His ability to hold his own in this showcase will be what makes or breaks him. If Johnson plays well, look for his stock to really rise.
The Statement session has become a staple in Louisiana hoops. These players deserve to have their ability shown and will be playing against a ton of the best in the state. This format will definitely give them the ability to show themselves worthy.
