The high school basketball news never stops in today's landscape and even in the month of August, when the school year is set to begin and the news cycle is supposed to slow down, moves that carry profound impact are taking place. The transfer portal is continuing to do its thing, so we'll take a look at recent announcements that have to do with DMV prospects in this month's DMV report.

Yesterday the Prep Hoops MD/DC No. 1 overall prospect, [player_tooltip player_id='1127309' first='Donavan' last='Freeman'], announced that he would be transferring from St. John's (DC) to IMG Academy where he'd complete his senior year before setting off for Syracuse. Freeman is a 6-foot-9 forward who spent the last six months helping lead his teams to a WCAC title in the winter and a Peach Jam title in July with [program_tooltip program_id='2077004' first='Team' last='Takeover']. Yet again, MD/DC sees another top prospect take their talents elsewhere. Derik Queen, [player_tooltip player_id='1127305' first='Bryson' last='Tucker'], Khani Rooths, Del Jones and [player_tooltip player_id='1089572' first='Daquan' last='Davis'] are just a few of the nationally respected prospects who have been on the move. Freeman joins that list and should be an instant two-way impact for IMG as they compete in the NIBC. Who will take Freeman's No. 1 spot? Rankings release later this month and it'll be an interesting decision to say the least.

Tucker returns?

Speaking of [player_tooltip player_id='1127305' first='Bryson' last='Tucker'], he is back in the DMV after a very short stint at IMG last season and will attend Bishop O'Connell for the 2023-24 season. Prior to IMG, Tucker established himself as a top-30 prospect nationally by helping Mount St. Joe sweep the BCL and MIAA A Conference titles. His dynamic skill set is undeniable and is the reason why a handful of power five schools are prioritizing him. O'Connell lost [player_tooltip player_id='1782695' first='Adam' last='Oumiddoch'] a few weeks back to Overtime Elite, which makes the Tucker addition even more important with the value that he can bring as a primary playmaker. The WCAC loses some star power with Freeman's decision, but levels back out as Tucker makes his return to town.

Eleanor Roosevelt with a late add

2024 wing [player_tooltip player_id='1489021' first='Lynn' last='King III'] has transferred to Eleanor Roosevelt and will play out his senior season with the Raiders, he told Prep Hoops. King won MOP honors while helping lead Mt. Zion Prep Academy to last year's inaugural Maryland Private School State Basketball Tournament championship and has a chance to be extremely valuable to an ER team that is an established force in the Class 4A. King brings size, versatility and experience to a young Raiders roster and will likely become a primary scoring option for the 2023-24 season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1759564' first='Dominick' last='Stewart'] heads West

2025 Mt. Zion Prep guard [player_tooltip player_id='1759564' first='Dominick' last='Stewart'] is heading West and will join Martin Somerville at SoCal Academy. The 6-foot-5 guard spent one season at Mt. Zion as a 2024 prospect before proving himself on the EYBL Circuit with [program_tooltip program_id='2078457' first='Team' last='Durant'] and deciding to reclass to 2025. Stewart brings good positional size, ability to make shots at a high level and a budding skill set on the ball. The departure is certainly a hit to Mt. Zion's lineup, but the addition of [player_tooltip player_id='1579104' first='Bobby' last='Montgomery'] from their high school program will help incrementally.
