There was some really tough defense being played at Oakland Fieldhouse! Let’s take a look at some players that stood out with their defensive performance at the event.
Zickert picked up right where he left off on the PH Circuit with the Midwest Stampede. He’s an elite perimeter defender that can get nose to nose with his man and cause havoc for the offense. Zickert does a great job seeing the ball defensively and playing with physicality.

Givens is a skilled player that turned heads at the showcase. He’s at his best when he plays defense chest to chest with his man and creates pressure. Givens has the ability to defend the entire length of the floor. He utilizes a strong upper body and quick feet to stay locked in with his man.

There’s nothing better to see at a showcase event than a player sacrificing his body to make a play on defense. Serota showed that he was willing to do just that. He slid quickly in front of ball handlers that were looking to drive and would either stop them in their tracks or take contact and draw a foul.
Bentley has one of the most well rounded games in the state, so it almost seems obvious that he’s on this list. He’s strong enough and quick enough that he can turn and direct his opponent on D. Bentley did a great job covering and closing out on shooters on Saturday.
Jackson definitely made a statement at the David Barns Showcase. He was more than solid on the defensive end. Nothing flashy, but it didn’t need to be. He just got stops. Jackson was incredibly fast when closing out on shooters, never letting a shot go up over him without a hand in the face of the shooter.
Brodi let his defense do the talking at the David Barns Showcase. He showed a really good eye for the ball on defense and seemed like he could anticipate the action of his opponents. I saw Brodi pick up a couple nice steals at the event.
Drew Davis
Drew Davis
Davis hit the David Barns Showcase coming all the way up from Florida. Man are we glad he did. This young man is very talented. His defense really stood out on Saturday. Davis showed an incredibly strong defensive IQ. He played help defense and found the right rotations. Davis was an energy player on defense that was willing to do the dirty work. With him having strong Michigan connections, I’d advise schools in the mitten state to take a long hard look at this young man.
