1.) 2024 Andrew Cose Andrew Cose 5'11" | PG Waukee Northwest | 2024 State IA (Waukee Northwest) – 48.2% (27/56)
Playing alongside Pryce Sandfort and Cade Kelderman provided Cose and the next player on this list with a lot of wide-open looks from the arc, and both players took advantage last season, shooting the cover off the ball from deep. Cose has a quick, smooth release, moves well without the ball in his hands, and has a ton of range. After averaging 5.1 points a game as a junior role player, he’ll step into a much larger role this season.
2.) 2024 Grant Tigges Grant Tigges 6'4" | SG Waukee Northwest | 2024 State IA (Waukee Northwest) – 47.9% (34/71)
Tigges was the third leading scorer for the Wolves last season behind the aforementioned Sandfort and Kelderman, putting up 11.1 points and 5.1 rebounds a game. He was excellent at the state tournament, knocking down a number of huge shots as well as showing he’s not just a shooter, but a dynamic all-around scorer. Like Cose, he has a quick release off the catch, but he’s also a really talented shooter off the bounce.
3.) 2024 Brennan Reid Brennan Reid 6'7" | SF North Scott | 2024 State IA (North Scott) – 47.4% (46/97)
A long 6-4 wing, Reid has turned himself into an elite shooter and dynamic two-way player. He’s coming off a great summer with the Iowa Barnstormers Black team, a group that was extremely successful. He has good size, a pure stroke, and he moves really well without the ball in his hands.
4.) 2024 Jonathan Howard Jonathan Howard 6'1" | SG Dallas Center-Grimes | 2024 State IA (Dallas Center-Grimes) – 44.7% (55/123)
A sharpshooting off-ball guard who moves really well without the ball in his hands, Howard is a true weapon off the catch, displaying a lightning-quick release and unlimited range. He averaged 11.6 points a game for the Mustangs last season.
5.) 2025 Anthony Galvin Anthony Galvin 6'0" | PG Cedar Falls | 2025 State IA (Cedar Falls) – 42.4% (50/118)
Galvin may be one of the best shooters off the dribble in the state. He’s a quick guard who gets the ball into his shooting pocket in the blink of an eye off the bounce, and he has supreme confidence in his jumper. He put together an outstanding summer with the Iowa Barnstormers and will be the focal point of the Tigers’ offensive attack this season following the graduation of Dallas Bear.
6.) 2024 Carson Johnson Carson Johnson 5'11" | PG Ankeny | 2024 State IA (Ankeny) – 42.0% (58/138)
Like Galvin, Johnson is a really good shooter off the dribble who does a great job using his quickness, ball-handling, and footwork to help create space to get his shot off. In addition to his shooting, he’s a gifted passer and playmaker for the Hawks who averaged 15.0 points and 2.8 assists a game as a junior.
7.) 2025 Davis Kern Davis Kern 6'8" | PF Linn-Mar | 2025 State #244 Nation IA (Linn-Mar) – 41.6% (37/89)
A 6-8 stretch-forward who is starting to get major attention from college coaches, Kern is the modern big man that is highly coveted in today’s basketball. He has beautiful form on his jumper, plenty of range, and a quick release off the catch.
8.) 2024 Trey Hughes Trey Hughes 6'2" | SG Liberty | 2024 State IA (Liberty) – 41.3% (57/138)
Hughes is a big wing with a quick release, unlimited range, and great off-ball movement. He had a really good summer with the Barnstormers as a player who was constantly running off of screens and firing off the catch. In terms of pure shooters, few in the state are better.
9.) 2024 AJ Flemister (Sioux City East) – 41.2% (21/51)
Flemister came off the bench to space the floor for the Black Raiders. He’s a true shooter who shot significantly better from the arc than he did from inside the arc last season (24.1%).
10.) 2025 Trey McKowen Trey McKowen 5'11" | PG Kennedy | 2025 State IA (Kennedy) – 41.1% (23/56)
McKowen was a key role player for the Cougars as a sophomore, usually the first player off the bench, providing a spark on both ends of the floor. The lefty guard is tough, quick, and is an excellent shooter both off the dribble and the catch. He will be one of the best players in the MVC this season.
