For whatever reason, the following guys have really impressed us, but have not quite cracked the Prep Hoops rankings yet. They have big opportunities ahead at their 5A schools.
Damon Alexander Damon Alexander 6'1" | SG KC Washington | 2024 State KS , 6-1, 2024, KC-Washington (pictured):
One of our favorite players to watch this summer, Alexander is poised for a big senior season. He’s got a great set of abilities to affect the game in a variety of ways. He’s long and lanky for a big guard, which is perfect for disrupting opposing offenses at the top to a zone and on traps in the backcourt, not to mention on inbounds passes. He created a lot of turnovers and a ton of havoc for Taylor Made Athletes this summer. He’s equally good with the ball in his hands, overwhelming smaller guards and standing out on the glass.
Tamir Anderson Tamir Anderson 6'3" | SF Highland Park | 2024 State KS , 6-foot-3 forward, 2024, Highland Park:
We’ve listed Anderson as a forward because of his length and knack for shooting from the perimeter. A legit threat for multiple threes a game, Anderson has just been waiting for more minutes at Highland Park. The Scots graduated three guards and a wing who took up a ton of the minutes. Anderson is different than the four who graduated – he’s a long guy who may be called upon to defend in the paint this year. He will need to be able to handle the ball some as well as rebound and defend multiple positions. There’s zero question about his scoring ability.
Chase Bond Chase Bond 6'2" | PG Spring Hill | 2024 State KS , 6-foot-2 guard, 2024, Spring Hill:
Bond has flown under the radar to this point, partly because the Broncos have struggled to get many wins during his career. Bond will be the team’s top returner, having earned second-team in the Frontier League as a junior. He’s long and active and can play multiple positions.
Maddox Dow, 5-foot-10 guard, 2024, DeSoto:
Dow has long been a standout on the club scene. He’s creative with the ball and scrappy at both ends. He makes a lot of plays and creates a surprising number of shots off the dribble. He is a threat from deep who must be accounted for at all times. Dow has gained good experience on good De Soto teams over the years and is ready to lead this year.
Van Haneberg, 5-foot-11 guard, 2024, Bishop Carroll:
Hanenberg is a productive guard who looks to play an even bigger role. He can play off some other fine 2024s at Bishop Carroll to form a veteran, experienced lineup. He handles the ball and deals out some assists and will provide leadership as a senior.
Caleb Noonoo, 6-foot-5 forward, 2024, Topeka West:
A standout shot blocker as a junior, Noonoo will be asked to do quite a bit more this season. He’s a physical forward (who could probably qualify as a center) who isn’t afraid to mix it up in the paint and gets off the floor for boards and to swat shots. The fact that he wasn’t asked to do a ton offensively shows up in his 61% shooting percentage. He cleaned up misses and scored around the goal. That doesn’t mean he can’t do a lot more.
