Here are the handful of prospects who could make a splash during the 2023 season.
Kamai Samuels, Hamilton Heights Christian Academy: The 6-foot-1 point guard just arrived into the state in late June from Montreal, Quebec and recently picked up an offer from Arizona State. Samuels has a quick, first-step, great ball handles and can make shots from different areas on the court. He debuted at No. 6 and depending on how well he performs this upcoming season will determine whether or not he moves up a spot or two.
Parker Pounds, Briarcrest: Pounds debuted at No. 71 and will be a plus for a Saints team looking to make another deep postseason run. His shot making ability will definitely help the program space the floor. Pounds gives Briarcrest another reliable a shot maker to pair up with the team’s best sniper in senior guard Cooper Haynes Cooper Haynes 6'3" | SG Briarcrest Christian | 2024 State TN .
BJ Brown, Christian Brothers: Brown debuted at No. 51. Nothing is flashy about Brown’s game, but he knows how to get the job done. The 5-11 point guard showed flashes over the summer of having the ability to find his teammates and take care of the basketball. Everything is pointing at Brown leading the Purple Wave in 2023. Christian Brothers will be fine with a confident Brown as one of the team’s most important decision makers.
Kayin Mitchell, Memphis Central: The 6-0 combo guard debuted at No. 68. Mitchell has the tools to be a solid scoring guard for the next three years. He can score at all three levels. Mitchell has some athleticism and respectable ball handlers to get into the lane and finish. A strong 2023 season from Mitchell will bump him up into the top half of the class.
