Continue ReadingThe start of the school year portends the next rankings update. Our PA staff is diligently combing through the current rankings to factor in the information gathered and games watched over the summer. Here are six players that should see a bump in their respective positions:
#113 Bahsil Laster | 6’5 G | ANC + NJ Scholars EYBL
Already a standout point-of-attack defender, Laster grew as an off-ball defender after arriving at ANC. He then put both of those on display while running with NJ Scholars EYBL. There, Laster often drew the toughest assignments defensively and took full advantage of those opportunities. Good things also happened for the team when they put the ball in his hands, allowing him to play-make for others. He’s quietly becoming one of the best two-way guards in the state.
#126 Nyle Ralph-Beyer Nyle Ralph-Beyer 6'4" | SG West Chester Henderson | 2024 State PA | 6’4 G | WC Henderson + East Coast Power HGSL
Ralph-Beyer had a pretty good junior campaign. But coming out of the June High School Live Period, he was one of the hottest players in the Philadelphia area. His high volume and efficient shot-making caught the eyes of several college coaches. The ability he showed to create his own shot during that period was book-end by the off-ball scoring he brought to East Coast Power , one of the top 17U teams on the HGSL circuit.
#169 Matthew Gorman | 6’2 G | St. Joe’s Prep + GBA Elite MHC
Gorman was a huge part of Prep’s incredible season. Rather than play with a big named grassroots program, Gorman went the development route with GBA, in addition to playing in the Post & Pivot Spring League. During that stretch, he made incremental improvements to his game – team defense, cutting off-ball, and experimenting with the ball-in-hand offensively. He’s the “star role player” that makes his team better and helps them win.
#171 Lamine Sanoh Lamine Sanoh 6'9" | PF Executive Education ACS | 2024 State PA | 6’9 F/C | Executive Education + Philly Pride Select
Even though his spring and summer were limited by injury, in his time on the court, Sanoh demonstrated the strides he’s made. In June, the wiry big man was a go-to player on the Raptors. He went to work in the low-post, using smooth footwork to score over and around opposing post players. Further, him being so light on his feet made a rebound magnet, generating second-chance opportunities. He’s going to solidify his new level of play as he approaches his senior year. Yet, Sanoh has already started to “put it all together.”
#319 Kyle Shawaluk Kyle Shawaluk 6'4" | SG Perkiomen Valley | 2024 State PA | 6’4 W | Perkiomen Valley + PSB Philly
Shawaluk was second-team all-division in the Pioneer Athletic Conference. But he seemingly came out of nowhere this summer. First, he strung together multiple standout performances in June. Next, he built upon that with his grassroots team in July. And now he continues to standout at the Check Rock League in Wilmington. Wherever Shawaluk goes, he plays the right way and still flashes his immense talent. He’s only going to keep getting better.
Top 10 Thoughts
Currently at #8, Thomas Sorber Thomas Sorber 6'9" | C Archbishop Ryan | 2024 State #58 Nation PA (6’9 C | Archbishop Ryan + Team Final EYBL)does have much room to rise in the rankings. But while players in front of him have had incredible peaks and a few valleys, there’s something to be said for consistency. Sorber committed to Georgetown early in the summer, after a stellar junior campaign, then proceeded to punish almost every big man he played against. Even with a smaller usage with Team Final , the EYBL regular season champs, he guarded his yard and patched any/all leaks in their defense. And for that, he’s in consideration for a spot in the Top 3.
