We will take a look at those prospects who have picked up division offers so far this summer, and a little about their game. Here’s a look at part two of the 2024 VA prospects who have new schools recruiting them this summer.
Damon Thompson Damon Thompson 6'0" | PG John Marshall | 2024 State VA | 6’1” PG | John Marshall
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #16
Spring/Summer Offers: Florida Gulf Coast
Thompson helped lead Team Loaded to a Final Four appearance in the Adidas 3SSB Circuit, and picked up another offer to add to his already impressive list of double digit mid major offers. Thompson is a smooth scoring guard who can make tough shots from all three levels, he changes speeds and directions well with the ability to create space, he gets to the line often and he can make plays for others when the defense collapses. Throughout the high school and AAU season he’s shown the ability to run the show but also has the ability to take over games and score the ball when his team needs him to.
Brandon Jennings Brandon Jennings 6'4" | PG St. Christopher's | 2024 State VA | 6’3” PG | St. Chris
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #18
Spring/Summer Offers: Winthrop, Robert Morris, Navy, Holy Cross, William & Mary, Norfolk State, Bryant, Northeastern
Jennings has seen his recruitment take off this summer, going from two offers before the live periods in April to now sitting at 10 with a lot of other schools interested heading into the final live period. Jennings played well at the 3SSB Championships where he was Thompson’s backcourt mate and they fit perfectly as he is a true floor general who plays with great pace and sees the floor extremely well, he’s a lock down defender who can turn ball handlers over, he is a good finisher in the paint and he can knock down shots both off the bounce and off the catch. He’s also a high academic student which is why so many prestigious universities are recruiting him and he could have more on the way.
Jamie Vinson Jamie Vinson 6'10" | C Oak Hill Academy | 2024 State VA | 6’10” C | Oak Hill Academy
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #20
Spring/Summer Offers: George Mason, Ole Miss, Boston, Nevada, Vanderbilt
Vinson took a big jump in the rankings last time and should take even more of one after his strong performance for Southern Assault on the 3SSB Circuit, and his recruitment is growing as of late with some high major programs coming in recently. The 6’10” big man is a versatile offensive player who can play inside-out, he’s a good athlete who can get up and down and is a good finisher and rim protector, he can knock down shots from deep and he plays with a good motor. He’ll have a bigger role for this Oak Hill team this year, so if he chooses to let his recruitment ride out he could see more offers coming his way.
Kolier Pruett Kolier Pruett 6'4" | SG Narrows | 2024 State VA | 6’4” SG | Narrows
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #30
Spring/Summer Offers: Army
Army did their homework and made a great offer for one of the more underrated and unknown hoopers in the state. Pruett has had a great career in a small market as he’s been a Class 1 All State selection over the past two years and has led Narrows to multiple state tournament appearances with his dominant play, and he’s shown on a talented GATA squad he can also play with other good players as well. The 6’4” two guard is a big time athlete who can get out in transition, he makes shots from deep with effortless range and is good in the midrange, he has a great feel for the game and makes the right decisions and he plays with toughness on both ends too.
Matthew Shelton Matthew Shelton 6'5" | PF Evergreen Christian | 2024 State VA | 6’5” F | Evergreen Christian
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #50
Spring/Summer Offers: Loyola (MD)
Shelton added another offer from Loyola pushing his total to four offers, and he’ll have a chance at the NCAA Live Period camps to make more of a name for himself as well. The 6’5” forward is an elite level athlete who thrives in transition, he can play and guard multiple positions and he can stick it from deep when he’s left open. For his size and position he shows a lot of upside as a defender with his ability to block shots and move his feet, and he still has a lot of room to improve on the offensive end too.
Mekai Johnson | 6’5” WF | Bishop Ireton (VA)
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #76
Spring/Summer Offers: ETSU, Coastal Carolina
Johnson will likely take the biggest leap of anyone in the next class rankings, as he’s had a great summer and in culminated in his big showing in the DMV Live Scholastic period where he picked up offers from ETSU and Coastal Carolina. The 6’5” wing has a college ready frame and is a good athlete to go along with it, he has shot the ball well throughout the summer, he brings it on both ends of the floor and he continues to get better every time we see him. He’s still young for his grade and could take a post grad year as well, where he’ll continue to develop and could see even more schools start to recruit him.
Reece Hagy Reece Hagy 6'8" | SF Miller | 2024 State VA | 6’7” F | Miller School
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: Unranked
Spring/Summer Offers: Air Force
I was absolutely shocked to look through our rankings and see that we left Hagy off, who played a solid role in Miller’s run to the state championship game last year and he’s had a fantastic summer with VA Premier and his Miller team in the scholastic live period. The 6’7” forward has long arms that allows him to rebound and challenge shots, he really shoots the ball well from deep both off the catch and off the bounce and he’s showing improvement in his ability to put it on the deck and create for himself and others. Air Force was the first one to pull the trigger, but I could see more service academies getting involved moving forward.
