The summer AAU season kicked out in a big way with a deep and talented field at the Chicago Summer Challenge. Following are five Michigan standouts that caught my eye from the weekend action at the deep and talented field.

[player_tooltip player_id='1438854' first='Ben' last='Murphy'] 6-2 2025 Dexter Ann Arbor based The Process has had a very productive run on the Prep Hoops Circuit. They are a balanced and deep squad. One might player that might get lost in the shuffle a bit is Murphy. He is very similar in game frame to backcourt partner [player_tooltip player_id='1438244' first='Drew' last='Blanton']. A no frills efficient backcourt prosoect. Versatile and skilled enough to play both positions. Unlike Blanton though he has a slightly different regular season environment. The Dreadnaughts (great mascot) graduated do everything forward Evan Haroldson. Coincidentally enough Haroldson was one of the better performers on the Prep Hoops Circuit last year. Murphy has a real opportunity to see his statistical profile take off. If he continues to play as he has this spring and summer. That should not be a problem.

[player_tooltip player_id='1544383' first='Simon' last='Sondreal'] 5-11 2025 Northville I could be really lazy and just copy and paste what I wrote for Murphy and put it here. A lot of it would apply. However Sondreal's game is slightly different. Due to being a bit smaller. He plays with a little more speed and aggression than his backcourt teammates. Like seemingly everyone on his team. He is a good shooter from beyond the arc. Dealt with pretty serious facial injury in the spring. Showed toughness and grit by playing through it. It was good to see him minus the mask in Chicago this weekend. Has an opportunity at a good Northville program to take a step up. As a recent transfer might call for an increased role offensively.

[player_tooltip player_id='1588209' first='Adam' last='Dugener'] 6-0 2026 North Muskegon (pictured) Dugener has been the steady hand for a Hardwood Midwest squad that has had a good run on the Prep Hoops Circuit. In a Sunday victory against Big 3 Hudson he had to do a little more than just control tempo and distribute. Finished with 13 points. However more importantly handled heavy pressure calmly and maturely. Big 3 really amped things up late to try and get back into the game. Saw the court well and didn't panic as the pressure increased. Clearly wanted and was comfortable with the ball in his hands late.m

Cameron Gunsell 6-3 2026 Ludington As stated with Dugener. Big 3 Hudson was a physical and aggressive squad. Early in the contest this appeared to bother Gunsell. However he adjusted by moving his game off the block where he could use his speed to exploit mismatches against his bigger opponents. Finished with a hard earned eight points in that contest. The versatile forward is coming off an excellent spring. After playing a JV at a strong deep program. Should be ready to see his role expand in the coming year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1864825' first='Peyton' last='Viehman'] 6-5 2026 Traverse City Central Viehman had a strong weekend for Midwest Stampede. The player from a small town in the far reaches of Northern Michigan was in double figures all weekend against some tough competition. Standout performance was in a Saturday opening victory over M 14 Hoops National. The lefty attacked the basket with aggression in both transition and half court sets. Showed the ability to play and finish above the rim. Had a nice dunk down the base line. Used this athleticism to be a deterrent at the rim as well. Will be going through a bit of a change next year. Transferring from Michigan's smallest division into its largest. After playing JV last year. It will be interesting to see how he handles the jump in competition. It will help that he is joining a talented group of 2026 Trojans. A few of them were playing with him this weekend.
