A lot of the usuals stood out, but a couple other guys made some big contributions off of the bench this weekend too. Below is who caught my eye on Nebraska Supreme.
I loved the way Jake Hilkemann Jake Hilkemann 6’4″ | SF Lincoln Southeast | 2024 State NE played this weekend for Nebraska Supreme. He was active, and brought a ton of energy off of the bench, especially in the Elite 8 game against the Las Vegas Knicks. Hilkemann’s versatility and toughness allows him to guard several different positions. This weekend, he was tasked with guarding some high level division 1 talent, and did a great job. On offense, he did a great job attacking the basket and finishing through contact. He found himself at the free throw line often too. His size, versatility, and toughness make him very appealing to college coaches.
Eldon Turner Eldon Turner 5’10” | PG Bellevue West | 2024 State NE had a very nice weekend in Omaha. He played very well on both sides of the ball in the Elite 8 game against the Las Vegas Knicks. Turner forced several steals and poked a lot of balls free with his non-stop ball pressure and quick hands. On offense, he was patient and picked his moments to either facilitate for his teammates or look for his own shot. Turner got hot from three towards the end of the game against the Las Vegas Knicks, and had a very deep and-1 three pointer. I was very impressed with Turner’s play this weekend.
Alex Wilcoxson Alex Wilcoxson 5’11” | SG Gretna | 2024 State NE ‘s jumper was on in the last game of the weekend. He finished the game with 14 points, 12 of those coming from behind the arc. Wilcoxson is known state-wide for his ability to shoot the basketball at a high clip. His shot-making ability translates greatly to the next level. I was also impressed with how well he cut without the ball. Wilcoxson capitalized on defenders falling asleep with simple back cuts that translated to easy layups.
Bhan Buom Bhan Buom 6’5″ | SF Wasatch Academy | 2024 NE looked really good this weekend. He was very active on both sides of the ball, and brought energy to his squad. Buom has had to play out of position this summer because of the departure of Bangot Dak to Colorado. He’s done a great job at guarding bigger guys and blocking shots at the rim. On the offensive side of the ball, Buom gave his team extra possessions with offensive rebounds, and got to the rim and free-throw line quite a bit. He has made strides in his game this summer, and I anticipate that to continue.
Marcus Glock Marcus Glock 6’4″ | SF Wahoo | 2024 State NE did well this weekend, especially with all the attention he received. In the game against the Las Vegas Knicks, Glock did not get a lot of touches because of how tight he was being guarded. When he did get a decent look, he was able to capitalize and knock down some shots. In the last game I saw him play, he finished with 20 points, and was a beast on the offensive glass. After earning his first two DII offers last week, more should continue to come his way.
